Hi Ian,looks like, well,up to press not much interest in rainwater
Harvesting. As I understand it there`s been `tons`of the stuff come
Down in Oxford,Sussex and most southern counties.Up north it`s
Been not too bad.Hav`nt done too bad myself all things considered
But when ya think of all the flooding and misery it causes when there
Is constant torrential rainfall is it really worth thinking that way?
I live in a valley, but luckily,I`m at the top of it.

Ive been thinking about putting my waste water from my ro into a couple of water butts then down the drain so i have got 400 litres of water to use trad and water plants. Anybody else do this?

As for rainwater harvesting, im not sure how you could do this as if you collected it from your gutter it would surely get contaminated from the roof and gutter. Maybe you could put it through your ro im not sure.

I have a 1000 litre tank collecting off a small part of my roof (I'd have more if I could get round to sorting out the drainage from all the roof). The TDS varies between 10 and 15ppm, so by filtering that my resin has a long life. Worth doing IMO if you can manage it. The tank I use is one of those square one with a metal frame so it can be lifted by a forklift. Got mine for £15, but I see them sell at machinery sales for £25-50.

Been collecting mine for a year later this month, RO unused. Use an IBC or two collect of a felt roof if possible, Lewis covered his in pond liner. Varies between 001 and 15 tds ish but I only collect when its raining 1-3- saves me DI filtering. I have the use of 5 garage roofs but the IBC is 30 yards away. I put it on blocks and just decant into containers.
I only use small ammounts of water as you may know, so 1 IBC is adequate. This morning I ran out of van water after using 40 litres and had to refill which is very rare never needed more than 100L/day. Earnings to water was very good.
Small topic over on   d i y w a terfedpole.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=572 - join the letters or its on page 2 called "collecting and purifying rainwater" by Lewis.
Or just google "rainwater harvesting"
Its easy, fun and free !

I have four 200lt  tanks in and around my house and they are always overflowing soon after a fair rain.
In the winter nearly always full
I am just in the process of purchasing two 1000lt ibc tanks to catch it all!

Keeping it clean is the key use filter/sieve to stop muck going into tank!

around the 17 May my tanks were empty...Summer I thought Huh...
now overflowing again!

but no problems thats what the ro's for !

Just a tip use your ro at least once a week just to stop damage to filters!

All I do with rainwater is pump it through a mesh filter, a spun debris filter (£1 Wintex)
and then the Di resin into holding tank  8) 000tds
