Leather re-coloring...1st job
« on: June 02, 2008, 07:28:40 pm »
Just thought I'd share a couple of photos with you. It was about time I did a sofa and I think it came out pretty good. It was originally black then after a good clean looked like a dark grey! The finished article is a chocolate brown mottled black effect. Took about 2-3hrs in all.

The first photo is after cleaning, then nearly finished 1st coat and finally the completed job. Sorry for the bad light and quality of pics.

Thanks to mossy for some tips (the airbrush & compressor are great). Also Andy at LTT teaches very well too.

Cheers for the comments fellas.

I feel more confident now the first one's out the way I must admit ;D  The last photo looks like I missed some on the seat and arm, its not thank god - its light bouncing off of it.

Hi Steve

Mossy recommended this one www.cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spraymaster-Gravity-Feed-Pistol-Trigger-Airbrush-Kit_W0QQitemZ290233462354QQihZ019QQcategoryZ28111QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem It was superb and didnt spit or give any problems. I had to do the whole suite with it, with a mini compressor and it was fine. The bigger gun and compressor wasnt an option as I didnt want to risk overspray.

Cheers

Kev

Good job Kev. The result looks great and no doubt the customer was well satisfied.
This will have given you a great deal of confidence getting the first one under your belt.

Applying with an airgun (especially with a bigger one - the link wasn't working so could not see which one you used) generally applies way too much product. The badger airbrush is plenty big enough for the amount of product that is needed to apply in a very fine application without any chance of overspray and does not take any longer to apply, also makes the product use far more economical.

Thanks Mike & LTT.

The airbrush recommended is here, just condense the http and the link will work: h t t p://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Spraymaster-Gravity-Feed-Pistol-Trigger-Airbrush-Kit_W0QQitemZ290233462354QQihZ019QQcategoryZ28111QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Its small enough to do finite jobs on par with the badger. I just found this better as it is gravity fed and didnt once block like the badger did. As I said in my earlier post, I didnt use a big gun for fear of overspray.

Cheers

Kev

Kev dont listen to amature sprayers ::) who think they know it all, you cant get over spray or spitting with the  system I have given you. You can get it with poor powered aerosols and cheap airbrushes with the wrong size jets though. ;D

Oh and you cant put too much paint on either so dont listen.
