Snapping Swivels
« on: May 31, 2008, 07:56:49 am »
Broken three lately - the screw in type with the ball and socket. Has anyone found a supplier of the linkage type similar to the paint pads that can be adapted easily to fit my SLX?
Vileeda do one but i'm a bit reluctant to hack my Vikan about unless i know it's going to work.  :)

Cheapest place i've seen so far for the ball and socket version seems to be here

Yes, but being a tight wad like myself, just workout the price for ten - rather shocking. I would like one really that just lasts for ten years - not much to ask.  ;D

You'll have to wait until the end of this year then, when I have more time to spend in the workshop;D
I might start looking into turning some on my lathe in aluminum or brass, ally sounds the best option.

I have 2 of that type sat in my workshop, I just can't get on with them, I like the Mk1 that is even more difficult to get hold of.

if its the ball type swivel, drill and put a small thin bolt through it, this stops the ball from falling out

With windows over porched roofs, and over conservatories, I'm finding it very difficult if not impossible to get the brush in every corner.

Would it be practical to have a swivel on my pole for every job?

I won't be with out my swivels, I use the all the time, you can stand to one side and still clean a window with a swivel on.

Same here, i couldn't work without one now, i prefere the MKII one though(screw in) once pinned & lubed they do the business for me.

DJW i have noticed a difference in quality with these swivels, some are more robust than others (quality control). some last me 4/5 months & then some only 6/7 weeks before it breaks where the taper meets the ball. ;)

I have a perfect MKI, used for 2 days only, any offers?

Tell me how much you want for it?  or I'll give you 2 x mk2 for it.

Mine were pinned and were great but they have started snapping at the narrowest point since using my SLX. I think the pole is so rigid that the joint takes all the power instead of the pole flexing like a banana (harris etc). I hate working without a swivel now it just doesn't seem natural. I'll order some more on Monday - damm the expense.

It doesn't fit rectangular vikan unless you cut approx 15mm off the neck tube. ;)

That swivel union in the picture is rubbish to use. There are better ones but they need modifying to fit brushes.
