Tim, are you sure the drip is not coming from the hose on the connector?Peter
Drain the tank and cover it in PTFT tape firstly,get some waterproof silicone that you get in a tube and coat the thread in it and do it up.when you`ve done it up put a seal of the silicone round the outside of the elbow also and this will do it i`ve had to do it myself in the past,make sure you get the clear 1 it looks neater.
If PTFE wont stop it then you got a problem.Try 20 wraps building up towards the end of the thread

How far should I thighten the elbow? All the way in?
