Well here's the thing, you think poles are expensive, what about reels?

Suppliers have hundreds of these things, they are what the hose comes on, but they chuck them so window cleaners can't use them as reels.
Looks cheap yes but also a pain in the backside! The point with these harris poles is that it is something usable that is available for peanuts. I haven't bought one yet but I will be this weekend. They seem to be very usable for the job while still offering value for money.

I like the video i never though of doing those small windows downstairs straight across.

I was suprised how easy that pole shot up when you extended it i have not tried using mine like that yet.

You also say you can hold it up with the pole hose.
I don't quite get this part.

I have my pole hose running up through the pole how would i be able to hold the pole up with the hose as if i pulled it the pole would come down.

I think that is a fair comment, I to would like to know, I have been playing with my harris ;D lol sry its late, I worked out on clampless to tighten the clamps a little to give just a little so when up you use the force against the windows to keep it up, correct me if I am wrong please as I am just tying it out

When using the Harris clampless I loosen the clamps off as much as possible, I then thrust the pole upwards, or you can do it straight out in front of you until you get the hang of it, as this is a little easier, you need to have hold of the base of the pole with your right hand (if your right handed), as the pole stops extending you need to get hold of the hose with your botton two fingers, or push it against the base of the pole with your palm, this is to stop it falling back down, most hose will hold up the pole, but the thicker the hose the better, I have some reinforced stuff I got from Brodex I think, and if you hold it quite tight in your fingers it also helps to stop the brush from twisting. When you want to bring the pole down you just release your grip on the hose, you can also stop the pole from crashing down too hard by gripping the hose a bit just before it is completely retracted. Once you get used to it, it is a brilliant way of working, especially on small houses were the the pole is being extended and retracted a lot!! :)

Standard hose should be fine Paul, especially as the pole is so light, the only advantage of using the stiffer pole hose is that if you grip it in your fingers it helps to prevent the brush from twisting!  :)

What do you mean by 'standard hose, Graham?  8mm?  Or smaller?

Thanks.

Practiced in my back garden today using it clampless, good job it was out the back because I looked a right GONK  ;D because on one occasion I wasn't concentrating and threw the pole right up the garden because I forgot to hold onto it  :o ;D

I loosened the clamps right off but the second big section for some reason didn't want to fly out as well as the smaller section, once it was out, I could hold the pole up with no problems and the swivel I'm already used to because I use a swivel brush all day and every day.

Graham why won't my second section shoot out properly? :'(

Always remember to hold onto your pole Jeff! thats my advice!!! ;D

You could try cleaning the lower section, there may be some grit on it, then rub it down with an oily rag. Also what brush are you using? as a slightly heavier brush my help it to shoot out a bit easier! It took me a while to get the hang of it, but its worth perservering with!!!! :)

Another thing Jeff, make sure the hole where the pole hose comes out at the bottom of the pole is as big as you can get it, so that the hose goes in and out easily! ;)

Cheers Graham  ;) I'll give it a clean, I'm useing a Salmon brush so it is light one.

I got the top end to shoot right out but only half of the next section, so a good clean made do the trick.

NEWSFLASH
I cut the cord of my grandsons WI and wrapped it around the base of my pole so it won't shoot out my hand now  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And Finally
The hole is so big at the bottom I can climb up it. ;D ;D

That sounds like pretty good going to me, is that with just one thrust? because I would have thought that with the pole at that length you would be able to clean most windows, If you need it higher perhaps another thrust will do the trick? Are you trying to extend the pole directly upwards towards the window, as I did in my last video 'harris pole in a hurry' or straight out in front of you, as I did in my video 'harris pole used clampless'? as out in front of you is easier, but going straight up to the window is a bit quicker if you can get the hang of it. When I extend it straight upwards I wouldn't expect to be able to get it to fully extend with one thrust!!!!  ;)

Keep practicing Jeff, even if it takes a couple of goes to get it to extend enough its still a lot quicker than extending it by hand, and when you have finished upstairs its down in a flash!! I clean like this virtually all the time now!!  :)
