Theres no end to the talents of the Harris pole!!! I haven't even got started yet, just wait til I've finished my Harris Super pole!!! It will be 24ft long and close down to 5ft 7" and will be a match for any pole on the market!!! and all for a few quid!!!!  ;D

Its not difficult to shorten the Harris sections to 5ft or whatever you want, but you go first Groundhog- its your baby  ;)

I'm planning on cutting down a Harris pole to around 5ft 7 or maybe even less, and then adding an unger number 1 and an unger number 5 extension at either end, then putting on some heatshrink to make it look pretty!! The result will hopefully be the perfect pole!!!  ;D

Its going to be a modified Harris pole, the basic Harris pole is ideal as it is in my opinion!! And I think that most people on here now agree that it is a fantastic value for money pole!!!

I'm still waiting for an slx/facelift user to post a vid to show why their pole is worth £400+ more than the Harris!! But as yet no one has taken up the challenge!! The only justification they seem to be able to give for the extra cost is that the slx is shorter when closed down, and less whippy! Thats why I'm going to make one that extends as far as the slx and retracts to 5ft 7", the same as an slx!!! The shorter lengths will possibly make it stiffer as well, although I have no problem with a little bit of whip as it helps me to clean windows much faster than if the pole was more rigid!!! :)

If you were right we would all be buying cheap fiberglass poles wouldn`t we,for years WFPolers have been looking for light ridgid poles not bo whips.Carbon carbon is the only thing i want to clean with,i`ve even cut down a facelift carbon to use on stuff that`s only 20ft,it`s like a stair rod and about the same in weight.

No, they snap!!! ;D But many of us are now using super cheap but incredibly good Harris poles, and finding them just as good as any expensive Carbon carbon ;D pole on the market!!!  ;)

Just a point, a more flexible pole will always take more energy to brush a window clean than a rigid pole.  The speed may be the same but the energy expended to achieve the same effect will be a lot greater.

Whilst the flexibility of a Harris pole is OK at 15ft (which from your videos, it is), if you extrapolated this to a 25ft pole it would become almost unusable.

I am sure the Harris pole is proving to be a very useful tool but there really is a world of difference between these type of poles and a purpose built carbon fibre pole (apart from the cost  :D ).  Admittedly I would not bother buying a 15ft carbon fibre pole as it would be overkill.  However the option of a carbon fibre pole at 25ft which can then also be used on ground level work is a pole that many people do want, myself included.  It all depends on whether a 15ft pole will reach all of your work, which for many domestic window cleaners it will.

A 15ft pole wouldn't reach half my domestic customers bedroom windows as they are very old houses with high windows almost equal to modern 3 storey town houses. I for one wouldn't use whippy poles at that height given a choice of poles to choose from.

Disagree about the energy expanded, the only time the whip comes into affect is on the side to side movements at the top of the pane, I just have to give the pole a little flick and it does the work for me!! If it was totally rigid, I would have to do all the work myself. A bit of whip= more speed. It also helps me to reach hard to reach windows eg behind conservatory roofs ect.

You obviously did not watch all the videos as my Harris pole extends to 22.5ft, and is very usable at that height!!!

You say there is a world of difference between the Harris and the slx, well there really ought to be with a price difference of over £400!!!! I have posted videos to show what my harris pole can do, (although I haven't posted a full speed vid as yet) The idea was so that a slx/facelift user could then post a video of an expensive pole in action, so that we could all compare the 2, then we could decide if it really is worth paying out an extra £400+ for what is basically the same tool!!!

Err, going off topic slightly, my wife just bought a brand new Skoda Fabia Greenline on friday. It's averaging 67mpg at the moment, pulls like a train and seats five and the road tax is £35 ............ so who needs a Ferrari or an Aston?

Similar argument wouldn't you agree?

Wayne an unmodified Harris pole is 16.5ft, and mine extends to 22.5ft with the extension I have fitted!!

If your pole is better then post a vid to prove it as I have done!!!! ;)

Similar argument yeah right,i can`t see many people trading there ferrari`s or Aston martins in for a skoda can you,and that`s a similar argument to the Harris SLX-facelift topic.

one of my very first poles was a pulex one that i used for trad cleaning. I stuck a brush on the end and used it. It was winter and made my hands cold, and the twist connections were horrible in the cold. It was too long for downstairs use.

Your pole is not objectively as good as an xtel thats just fact.

Subjectively you and many others may prefer it because of better wear and lower price.

Groundhog I think you are getting a bit carried away.  OK you have posted a video, but it dosn't prove anything except you can clean the windows on the video with the pole.  I wouldn't think anyone right from the start would have doubted that an upstairs house window could be cleaned with that type of pole.  Someone could very easily do a video that would prove their pole was far far better, all they would have to do is a video cleaning a window above a conservatory for instance.

Don't think for a minute that people are avoiding doing a video because their pole is inferior, they are more likely not doing one because they don't want to for some reason or another.  How long has it taken you to do your extra fast speed video, since you made up your mind you are going to do it?  I am not knocking the pole, if someone wants to buy a £15.00 pole then fair play to them, but just because it will reach a second floor window, dosn't mean it is better than a £400 pole.
