When i canvassed i said to the custy " Morning/Afternoon Sir/ Madam i was just wondering if you have yourself a window cleaner, i either got the answer yes/no/dont want one or husband does it, if they said any of them except  yes id just say, thank you and walk away, if they said no then id ask if they would like one which is when i priced up a job, but there was one area today that i priced up for a family friend and then put a few leaflets in the area so maybe i put one through a cleaners door and this is a area id normally avoid.

Yer i bumped into a window cleaner today he was right at the beginning of a cul-da-sac i was going to canvass, he had come from another town, i went upto him and introduced myself and asked for a list of house numbers he did i that street as id avoid them, he was a really nice bloke and gave me some good tips and would contact me if he heard of any work going. We spoke for about 40 mins in total but not all in one hit.

I got loads of this when I started. Whatever you do, do not sound like you might back down. These tos*ers are cowards and if you show a hint of weakness they will be on your case.

One funny one was a guy who rang up and said I better hope I never bump into him. I asked why and he said I was going to get a kicking. I said 'tell me exactly where you are right now and I will come see you'. 'Erm, cant do that' was the reply.

Eventually, when they see you won't go away they will give up. I have releafletted the same area 3-4 times now and after the first lot I got no more phone calls. They knew it was no use.

Having said that, the phone that took the calls wasn't my regular mobile and to this day I dislike using it after all the hassle I had on it. It feels dirty or somethin like that. Soft, I know....

Oh, by the way, the police won't do diddly! Been down that road when one guy left a voicemail saying he was going to wait for me on dark night and break my legs. He even left his number unhidden so the cops had his number. DId they do anything? Did they hell!

Had this when I first started....just explain you're starting and will carry on but will not be stealing work from him....

Other than that...there is not such thing as a patch....

Dave..

This is a big problem with window cleaning that needs to be change. It shows that the window cleaning industry is still stuck in the past. When you here a professional window cleaners get telephone calls like this, in this day and age. The rest of the working world seems to have moved on. It’s these types who lower the image of window cleaning and keep it there.Removing these types from window cleaning will change the industry overnight and give it the right image it deserves. It should be regulated and enforced on the H&S aspect alone.I know a lot of you don’t agree with being licensed, it will stop a lot from entering the trade and get rid of a lot already working in it.It will go towards helping the professional window cleaner and not the other sort.Ewan
Agree  ;D  Last week I had a conman on my round telling my elderly customers , thet he was working for me , and he conned 3 old people out of 2 cleans !
