Wand Technique
« on: May 22, 2008, 08:02:24 am »
How good / effective is your wand ( carpet ) technique?

The comments about the wand,

Sticking to the carpet
Difficult to push
Juddering

Got me wondering if good technique is taught to new starts nowadays anywhere. When I started, most carpets were Axminster and I was taught to pull against the pile or, against the pile at 45%.

This was followed by raking to give a uniform appearanc and enhance drying.

I have to admit, I used the rake ONCE and not bothered for the following 24 years.

With glides now I think the judders, sticking and hard to push is a thing of the past.

If I am just cleaning then the way I wand sets the pile in the same direction anyway, not leaving triangles which if not wanded out should be brushed out.

A lot of web sites of cleaners here show a wanded carpet with triangles everywhere which is frightening by itself as by the book we should all brush a carpet after it has been cleaned.  Some carpets no but the "average" carpet should be brushed after it has been cleaned.

Rob, you mentioned you dont use the rake anymore.  Do you not apply protection then?  Not a problem if you dont as a lot of people dont, just wondered.

Best, Dave.
