We do a lot of properties and that self cleaning glass ( in our opinion) is a load of rubbish.  It must be bloo** clever stuff to get rid of huge bird poo splats without even touching it. It's a bit too reliant on us having continuous wet weather. Problem is people really want their windows at their cleanest during the Summer when ( apart from last year) it doesn't rain much during April, May, June, July & August.

And it's also a bugger to clean, has a sort of film on it!!

There, i've had my little rant!!

When I first started window cleaning 2.5 years ago I read here alot of window cleaners were slating Pilkington and calling it rubbish. At first I thought it was just sour grapes from W/C's that were feeling their business was being threatened by this 'miracle glass'
2.5 years later and after lots of experience I KNOW it is rubbish and doesnt work. So many of my customers have it as conservatory roofs and I actually clean it more than polycarbonate roofs (in fairness Pilk glass roof are clear so it shows up dirt more than Poly roofs) but even so, it is supposed to stay clean!

the coating only lasts a year.

The coating is titanium dioxide (TiO2)which is pretty hard stuff. It is deposited onto the glass in different ways by different manufacturers, but in such a way as to form a good bond between the glass and the coating.

Where is the evidence that it only lasts for a year?

Spent half an hour today scrubbing a conservatory roof that was supposedly "self cleaning".... 3 months old it was.... not seen one so mucky in a while. Self cleaning... if you clean it!

Yep. Bird muck seems to stick very well.
Did one today with that problem.
The owner said the sales guys told her it was ok to use a brush like they use to clean cars.
It cost the owner for the time I had to spend on it.
