I have just installed a r/o 100gpd (from r/o man) into my garage....

what my problem is...... the waste pipe that comes from the membrane has a steady flow of water to the drain

The pipe which takes the pure water to my static tank from the membrane drips in....resulting in aprox 150 ltrs of pure water been produced in the last 3 days.

My water pressure from my main feed is fine  and the flush valve is switched off,has anyone ideas as to what my problem is ...thanks in advance...young p*ssed off scrimmer.

problem number 1 - 100gpd ro is far far far too small.
problem number 2 - you need very high water pressure for the smaller ro's to function correctly (over 60psi)


how long did you flush the ro membrane for and are you sure you haven't just left the flush valveopen instead of closing it?

You say your water pressure is fine, what is it?  Good chance the water pressure is not good enough.  It will purify the water, but the production will be slow.  Get yourself a booster pump.

my usage at present is only 65o/700 ltrs per month thats why I went for the smaller one....My water presure is fine as only have recentley had a new feed put in and it blasts out of all the taps in my house.... but on saying that on the pressure gauge on the membrane housing its reading 35!!

With a booster pump you will probably get around 300L per day, and when you need more water later on you can add another membrane.

a booster pump and fit a extra membrane will increase the production rate if you look on ro man web site it shows you how to upgrade your system .

i have a 100gpd unit and it produces 150 litres every 24hours off 55 p.s.i. if that helps and i need to upgrade soon.

I guess you dont use much water
I am making nearly double that an hour with a 4040 i'm not bragging I am just shocked that it can take 24 hours to make so little water.

I helped a mate with a similiar problem (was a 300 GPD unit), put a valve on the waste water outout hose and restricted the amount of wastage being exited, check the ratio of waste to pure water and measure the TDS value, when your pure water ratio is approx 50/50 and the TDS value is acceptable (i.e. between 0 and 30) then leave it that way. Other than getting a booster pump or upgrading this is the only way to get a reasonable flow rate. Just make sure you do a good and long backwash.

There's your problem.

With the flush valve open all the water goes to waste so there's no pressure at the membrane.  With the valve shut about a third of the water goes through the membrane and the pressure guage will show an increase.

i know this doesn`t answer your question BUT Why do people bother with these small RO units? you can get a 300gpd for about £120 and even the Merlin is only about £250,i produce 600L in about 5 and half hours with my merlin

exactly clean - just had a look on ro-man, a 100gpd ro is £130

a merlin is £282 from ro-man but I'm sure you can buy it for less elsewhere.

I know you still need to buy a di vessel etc after but come on guys, this is your business, your livelihood.
