bluebob,  moisture wise make sure you do the same to the entire textile, it is best not to spot clean silk as it will change hand even if it is slight and therefore look a mess.

Wet the whole thing, clean the whole thing, job done.  Even if the stain doesnt come out it is job done.  Coffee and silk are usually an everlasting couple.

Best, Dave

Bluebob, DO NOT clean the rug using HWE, the fine silk pile will matt, clump, and create un-reversible damage.
Don’t also think you can get away with duo p or similar, these contain slight moisture that can still ruin silk pile.

Vac to death face and back then mist a dry-clean solvent over surface and towel off carefully in one direction.

Why is stuff like this slipping through the net, is no one bothered this guy is set to fall on his first clean!

Peter, I would imagine there are cleaners on here dreading even if it is quietly that on this his first job he is likely to fail or fall.  Just havent mentioned it for fear of stating the obvious.  The question posed by bluebob suggests that maybe he shouldnt be doing the job in the first place.

Pauls response was ok and I feel mine was too.

But how far do you want me or anyone else to go?

To suggest misting a dry solvent to clean a coffee stain on silk is nie on pretty useless as coffee isnt usually if ever considered a solvent soluble stain.  Where as it could be considered a water soluble stain.

Peter, you have suggested that slight moisture ( I pressume you mean water) can still ruin silk pile

If that is the case then I have to add how is it possible that I as do others totally submerse or totally saturate silk rugs.

I posted before some pictures of silk rugs having been totally immersed/saturated and if needs be will do so again.

Please note though I have never mentioned that any type of hwe is the correct way to clean silk or any type of fabric, Oriental rugs.

Does it work, yes and with some good results I am sure.  It just isnt the best way to clean them.

Anyway, my advice to bluebob would be to get someone who knows what they are doing to take it on.  But then I dont know bluebob and maybe he does.  Just his question suggests that he doesnt.

Again though, I wouldnt suggest using any dry or wet solvent to do this type of clean as simply it wont work.  There are occasions of course when it might but by the "book" it wont.

Best, Dave.

Is this bluebobs first job or is it his 1st silk rug (see above).

He may well be a experianced carpet cleaner not having dine a silk carpet before - just like me, and I would probably walk anyway.

Haven’t done a pure silk rug yet but I like the SAS motto think drying is the key and grooming Dave what the best for this.

Len, somewhere else I put a picture on here of the brush I use.  But dont ask me where.

It is horse hair and brass.  Or you can use a velvet carding brush.  In some cases I have used a tooth brush.

Dont be scared of silk rugs.  They clean up usually very well and take saturation with water just as much as any other Oriental rug does.

Best, Dave.

hj guys thanks for all the advice , i told the owner of the rug to phone there insurence company and ask them to me the ok, due to the rug being worth between 3.500 to 5.000 they said they would get there own people to clean it which i really did not mind once again thx

I bet they did.

How much were you going to charge? If you had said £350 for a full saturation clean you could have paid for someone else to do it and show you how for next time or take a commission.

Bluebob, next time you know ;), quote 10% of value ( £350-£500) then get Dave to clean it for that fee and watch him, next time you can do it yourself.
