Going down blind
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:05:05 am »
I would like a bit of advice in regards to a builders clean I have to go and see on Monday and start on Monday....

It is 2 hours drive from me ( so 4 Hours travel a day )

I have been told it will take 2 men 2 weeks to do....

and the work only involves cleaning the frames on the inside on the building....

What price should I be looking at?

I have not done a job like this ( as far away)
so please give some good advice...

Up to an hour away we drive back. Over an hour away the caravan and motorhome come out and we go on our holidays on a camp site somewhere near the work.

Come back home on a Friday afternoon and then go back on the Sunday. Not ideal - away from family but some of our work is 5 hrs drive away

Thanks, But not the advice I was looking for  ::)

A price would be better...

I'm now looking to have four of us on the job and have it finished on Thursday.

I have been told it will take 2 men 2 weeks to do....

You're a brave man if you take someone else's estimate as gospel.  It could be wrong by a couple of hundred percent either way.   I wouldn't dream of accepting a job on those terms.

As to price, I would have thought that was easy: 4 hrs a day driving is 20 hrs a week so 40 hours for the two weeks at your usual rate times 2 because it's 2 men's work so 80 hours before you even start :o

Then four man-weeks: whatever you would expect to earn if you were working locally per week times 4.

Are you sure you still want this job?
