Where the custy had the cons revarnished the guy got loads and loads of the stuff all over the glass especially around the edges. She wants me to get it off. It's too big a job for a scrapper (be forever and a day). What's good to do it, bearing in mind it's a Kew Gardens sized cons.

Tell her to get her decorator to return.  That stuff dries rock hard.  I wouldn't touch it.

I've used a scraper to get varnish off before, didn't find it too bad, but I didn't do a lot, just one window perhaps.

Can't you just charge by the hour?  That way it won't matter if it takes a week!

As I say they're loaded and will pay my going rate...if it takes 20 hours then it's £500...and they will pay!

what is the roof made out of ? if glass you will be able to get a chemical to remove it, or the trusty scrapper.

personally If this was done by someone else then they should really be doing this as they should have covered it
I would price high for this work as one you are really going to get burnt in this weather and 2 the job is boring and can feel like weeks even if only a couple of days.

The roof is glass as well and I'll need duck boards to access it...and naturally pints and pints of factor 20 sun screen!...and then there's the insides to do as well. I get the impression the "decorator" sprayed the stuff on....it really is everywhere.

Had a google...Nitromors seems to be the answer...my God I'll have to be careful with that stuff else I'll end up stripping the frame (where it's supposed to be!).

I think I may fob her off until nearer Autumn when it's a bit cooler!

Did the insides of a cons last year and the thermometer was registering 130...mus have drunk 3 gallons of water and didn't pee once!

thats a very be job, you are going to have to tape every frame up, (which should have been done in the first place)
I would say to the lady it is a very large job from your decorators mistakes, depending on the size its got to be in the £££'s

Thinking about this I'm going to do it in stages in the evenings after work and when it's cooler. As I say I can walk to her place in 5 minutes. She'll give me a key to the side gate (so she don't need to be there).  I'll put in a couple of hours every evening, keep a note of the hours taken and bill her when it's all done. She's a good customer and there's absolutely zero chance of her either knocking me or having a problem with the final bill.

But you're right about masking up...which is something Zynichiski (or whatever his name was) should have done in the first place :

oh for sure, I would contact this guy and give him some business cards

Titan Oil flow 141 or POG (Paint oil and grease from Chemspec) will do it but they are solvents so use gloves eye protection and a mask. Use a white scourer pad. I would remove as much as I could with a quality scraper first. Regularly change the blade to avoid scratches. No need to mask area but if working inside you will need good ventilation.

I`ll only remove stuff like this if it`s a good paying regular customer that happens to get stung by a cowboy painter,other than that i tell them to get the idiot back that put it on.I have said this to them before and they have got them to come back after i refused to do it,why should they have to pay me 3-4 times the normal clean when it`s the painters fault.
