Just wanted to give a plug to WW's site. This is W/C related. Hope you don't mind this Ian.
OK, I do realise that it may need a bit of proof reading but it does seem to be reasonably effective because he keeps it near the top of the search engine listings.
I paid Ian £49 for a year's advertising on his site which gives me a page with some text and pictures.
Since I decided to do this at the latter end of '07, I have NOT been deluged with enquiries. However, there has been a steady, slow trickle of phone calls. Some of the jobs I turned down to to poor access.
Currently, as a direct result of that page, I have work that I value at approximately £1,100 per year. It would be more if I provided a monthly servicve like some on here. I have declined other work via that source that I would value at around £400 - £500 per year.
So, not spectacular, but a slow and steady growth.
Apart from the need for a bit of proof reading, I would also say that the site could lead a potential customer to think that the businesses advertising on there are subsidiaries of Ian's business.
So it's not perfect (nor do I expect perfection) but it seems to be working for me. I wouldn't want work to flood in too quickly as it might be a struggle for me to cope anyway. But it does show me that people are more and more inclined to look online for a W/C. It's not necessarily those who you would expect to either. Some of the enquiries have come from pensioners.
