Just found out a friend who uses wfp out of a van had it stolen today. He has a fixed reel and was doing the back of the house whilst the van was parked on the drive. His water suddenly stopped and he went round to find the van gone with all the hose down the road.

It has certainly made me think about locking the front of my transit whilst working. Normally, I never lock it

I nearly always lock my transit and quite often lock the back with the hose just under the seal , 'm very untrusting in some areas

Thats bad news, I must admit I nearly never lock mine, but should probably start.  Normally leave the windows open as well.  Where abouts was he working?

I always leave it unlocked...sometimes with the key in the ignition just to make it really easy for the thief :

Somebody told me that if your car/van is nicked because you left the door(s) unlocked you might have trouble getting the insurance...wouldn't surprise me if it was true...insurance companies are quick to take the premium but wriggly like anything to try and get out of paying the claim!

Absolutely, you will not get paid by the insurer, read the small print.

If your out in the rurals you expect to be a bit safer.  I take it they probably just cut the hose with a knife.

Yeah I'll have to sharpen up a bit and start locking it....sooner or later someone will have it away.

Someone tried to break into my van a couple years ago without any luck. I lock it all the time and have a few security devices and alarm fitted. I trust no one and the van is locked even if I'm only 10ft away out of site of my van even if I'm miles out in the countryside.

go to halfords and get an on /off  switch and some cable and rig up a dead switch and hide it somewhere in the backof the van......... cost = less than a fiver

Oh dear.  I rarely lock mine while working.  Maybe I need to revise that.  The only time I lock the cab while working is if I need to run the engine to give the leisure battery a boost.  I just lock it with the spare key.  Thinking about it, that's probably pretty silly of me because it only takes a broken window to nick my van.

a switch that just creates a gap in the electric current to the ignition so that no power reaches the ignition till u turn the switch back on. The better u hide it the better

I always leave the rear door open however I lock the central locking and the dog-guard style thingy deters would be thief's...to much trouble I hope

I leave my van open all the time even leaving the keys in the ignition
I keep hoping someone will nick it  but its always still there when i get back to it
I often leave it unlocked overnight but i do live way out in the sticks shouldnt really as the poles and equipment inside it are worth more than the van
When i eventually get a new van i will lock it more often as i dont want it stolen

I hope your kidding, because if you lose your van and all of your equipment, and the insurer doesn't pay up, which they wouldn't, no sign of forced entry, your gonna be in debt for thousands of pounds, perhaps even 20-30k, depending on what van, and what system.
