The work i had with them was about 90 per cent of my income so although i have some other work now it still is a very large part of my turnover and i said before in this post i have a really good guy who helps me out with it so i would be letting him down as well.Obviously the lesson i am trying to learn is not to have nearly all my eggs in one basket.Maybe then i could take the options just offered.Alan(swindon)

As for you struggling with no bank account i think i read somewhere that Nat West offer a non status business account with a debit card. This may make things a bit easier.

As for these crooks milk them for as much as you can, but always insist in payment in advance. I bet they have another scam just around the corner.

don't go back to square one, with 4K you could do some serious leafleting, try doing 10 000 a week delivered by a decent company, go out to quote the jobs and build up different avenues.

im with shaun,  do 1 small job and bill them £4000.  i know you are saying that you have a helper but at the end of the day it is likely they will have you over again one way or another.  As shaun said......take the cash then do loads of leafleting

Edge,

Getting into this situation like this once is a mistake we could all make. Willingly going into it a second time is nothing short of stupidity. If you have to work for them because you will go hungry make sure you take action to get away from them as fast as possible. Personally I would be prepared to do almost anything not to - but then it is easy to say that when you are not in a desperate situation.

Most importantly, do not do any work for them that that has not been paid for in advance!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck

I'm not text savvy....... whats Paul saying? No full stops either.

The wife did her 1st ever text to our son on Sat night. I left her to it alone.
Later she said she sent it, but added.... how do you put gaps between words.
She must have sent a long one worded text :o

Whilst a lot of the answers make sense in the "real" world the law may not see it in quite the same manner. So if you do cash the cheque and then not provide any service you may then find them taking you to court.

Shaun's reply would therefore seem the most logical approach.
Do a small job and bill them £4k then it's all above board for your services.
