it can make you look the part, but it really can pull in a lot of work as well. you just need to know what your doing, or get someone that knows ;)

Yes. As long as you don't use just for your own vanity ie having your name on the net doesn't mean a thing if nobody knows who you are.
used correctly it will bring in a lot of business. make sure any site you have can be found by search engines for your specific keywords. these have to be something that a person would type into google etc to find what they are looking for. i.e window cleaners in london.
i would say 75% of my calls come from search engines, and i get these calls daily.

As above it makes you look more professional ( as long as you have a reasonable one). I have had three jobs specifically from my site. Three £14 pm and one of them also had the works, fascias, soffits and con roof. Site only cost me £200. Plus lots of my customers have told me they checked out my site before  ringing me in the first place as  I have built my round by leaflets. (Still in process) I have had my site about 6 months.
Customers need to know you are not a fly by night. Giving them your URL, phone no. address, name etc is good.

i went to a business gateway seminar on this matter and their advice was it helps legitimise your business and so bring in sales but some people spend far too much energy and time worrying about their site and getting it up there in the google ranking that they neglect the work they should be doing ie cleaning windows, so  in my opinion a good sale tool but dont spend hour after hour designing it and worrying about it. just keep it sensible at it will bring in work.

that said i dont have one so disregard everything ive just said ;)

Yes they are worth it,
and people looking for window cleaners would be interested.
A good website would not become redundant.
