Just wondered if there are any trad cleaners that use a truck(l200, ranger, navaro)  for work. If there are do you use roof bars or do you put your ladders in the back with them sticking past the front cab. I fancy getting one but not sure how practical they are for window cleaning

thought about using roof bars but they are pretty high, dont want to put my back out stretching to put ladders on roof

my dads got x2 L200's he had costom racks made but if i was you i'd stick with a van. there very very juicy and with the gov putting super tax on 4x4's it could work out exspencive. also the turning circle is awful on them and makes them a pain in the butt to monover.

Cheers MRd, looking at one pre2001 so tax should be normal and only do about 5000 miles a year so them being juicy doesnt put me off. Its just whether you can transport your ladders safely sticking out over the cab or do you have to use roof bars.

These vehicles do have a very high ground clearance and the base of the flat bed is very high. this raises the centre of gravity. If you put a decent amount of water at that height, you're just asking for trouble.

If you take a bend just a mite too quickly or need to swerve for any reason, you're going to roll - and kill and/or be killed.

Stick to a van with a nice low floor and consequent low centre of gravity.

Birdymiller. I use a double cab Ford Ranger. I do other work than windows that makes a 4x4 essential for me. it has a ladder rack which takes my fairly small triple. I am mainly wfp. Yeah, they are thirsty,but as you've said your mileage is low. I wouldn't put a tank in the back as that knackers it for other use. I use a backpack and barrels. As for the comment about super tax or whatever They are commercials and are so taxed as such...£180 per year. Not ideal window cleaning vehicles, but if you don't want to tie up a vehicle totally they have their place. i can take wife and three ankle biters if I have to

If its pre 01 the mpg will be even worse, my mate has an 05 warrior from new and the mpg is poor!!

My mate looked at one, then got a Civic TypeR, as it was better on fuel, and obviously more manly.

He scoots around in a 200bhp car that's a lot of fun and only does 24mpg...but it's still more than a pickup.
What's the point?
