I would like to take my hat off to people that use wfp system in a car using barrels, I have never had so much has to earn so little money as I have had today.......(god I am annoyed)

getting back to it what a pain in the backside, water stopping barrel running out air splatting water is to name a fewq things from today.. I want my van mount back

who do you just get the hose to stay at the bottom of the barrels ? and also airlocks 

Please help I am having a total nightmare.

I use a socket from a tool kit to anchor it down using a connector to stop it sliding off.

Get a spare lid for a barrel, cut a hole in it same size as the hose, put  the hose into it so it just touches the bottom of the barrel, you'll find the hose stays at the bottom of the barrel.

use a hozelock type "check" connector on end of inlet hose to help stop airlocks

I didnt borrow a trolley in the end, I wired up a pump varistream ect my self in the boot of the car. But thank you for clearing that up for me 
you lost me on the check connector part.

I will try and explain what I know have

pump strainier, varistream ect on a sheet of ply wires to battery with fuse.

clear pipe to put in barrel (nothing on end and bends up) then connected to pump (other side of pump) clear hose with hoselock connector to hose reel....

Hope you understand what I am saying.

if it costs me 5k to get my van mount back and van working will be worth every penny I just want it fixed getting trailored away tomorrow    .

will that not stop the water coming up the pipe ??

I have about 30 connectors, I also just installed a downstiars wc so have some waste pipe which I was thinking of attaching to keep clear pipe at bottom, I will not let this beat me and your help is more than welcome as is anyones.

My trolley has 1/2" hose and there is a length of plastic pipethat stops at the base of the barrel.
A hozelock is on the end the stop the hose from moving.

the valve stops water coming OUT it does not stop the pump drawing water in
try it look for a female hozelock
look down the business end
if you can see a "x" in it then its a check valve
some connectors even have the word "stop"on them
try changing the barrell before its totally dry
keep hose end pointing down when changing over

yes look for an x
you need a hozelock that if placed on a hosepipe would stop the flow when you pulled the sprinkler thing out the end
as opposed to one that just lets the water flow thru

I use two containers side by side. I have two stainless steel tube that go into the containers, these tubes I bought in a car boot sale, and they originated from a beer cellar. They used to fit into the beer barrels and have built in strainers, so I don't need an in line filter. Each tube has a section of rubber surgical hose that connects to a hozelock Y piece and onto the pump intake. The whole thing works a treat, I would rather a 50 litre trolley system than a van mount any day, having a 30 metre micro bore hose reel mounted on the trolley means I don't need to take the trolley round the back.
I would need to have at least 200 metres of hose on some jobs if I used a van mount. Dai

How many containers do you use on an average day Dai ? What vehicle do you use please ? Just being nosey mate

right well i have had lots of experience doing this and can understand what a total frustrating pain it can be.
i have put a clear length of plastic tube the length of the barrel height and a female brass hoselock on the end to keep it in there and stay at the bottom. plastic plumbing tube will be ok, cut the hose slightly diagonal at the bottom so it doesnt get stuck sucking on the bottom if you dont use a brass fitting.
I used the normal 100m 8mm hosereel and bolted it to the floor with two hose guides, but you probably wont want to do that in a newer car. 8 barrels, changing them over is a sure pain, what i usually do is turn of the varistream when it runs out, put the sucker in the next barrel, then disconnect the reel and pump on boost, & wait for it to suck through, then back on the reel and down to 4-5 ish,, and so on.
It would be handly making a doubling up fixing for two barrels at a time. Brass metal ball bearing female hoselock fitting on the reel where it revolves is a must, otherwise the plastic ones break all the time when reeling in.

I have Mondeo hatch and can fit 8 barrells in the boot,but I now use small trailer which holds 12 barrells have the trolley ,pump and battery in the boot  with another 2 barrells, also use metal hose connector in barrel to keep hose in place.

its easy enough

ive stripped the insides of a hoselock connection, then that is enough weight to just drop it in the barrel and it stays on the bottom

as for air locks, easy enough, have the IN hose coming up from the pipe and arching into the barrel, you very rarely get a airlock that way, and if you do it clears inside 10 seconds
