moderators and members views please
« on: May 05, 2008, 11:35:16 am »
it seems to me that some members of this forum only seem interested in antagonising, arguing, bullying, name calling and generally trying to put others down.

as for myself, I use this forum to increase my knowledge, better my business and to help others where I think I ave something to add.

views please?

(hope this thread doesn't go quickly downhill as others have recently)

I'm glad you only use the forum to increase your knowledge, better your business and help others, much better than pointlessly wasting your time accusing others of bullying, antagonising, arguing, and putting others down. Otherwise there would be a contradiction and a certain amount of hypocrysy involved.

My position is that if i am targeted I answer back, but usually only after two or three negative comments. If someone follows me from thread to thread making comments then I tend to be harsher.

I've also noticed the quality and amount of posts demoralising others, over the past few months.
Shame really I learned so much from this forum.
If you notice a lot of the old guy's have now gone or simply changed there names after being hounded by certain members

Its a shame that people that can easily offend and throw brickabats and derison but have to hide behind false names.

I prefer knowing that I am talking to a real person that has the confidence to at least put their proper name in their avatar.(Some good forums make this compulsory)

I sometimes wonder if the fact you can hide behind a user name is a good thing or not. Personally I use my Company name as my user name (same on all forums I am a member of). If anyone is wondering my name is Peter Thornhill and I live in Tewkesbury (the town that flooded) in Gloucestershire. If u are replying to my posts  feel free to call me Pete. I have nothing to hide and don't understand why people who want to express their opinions need to hide behind false names. I also find that usually the ones who are happy to knock everyone else usually hide their email addresses as well. Anyone else noticed this?

There are exceptions to most rules.  I'm not the only one.

What's in a name anyway?  (on an internet forum especially)

I form an opinion about someone else over a fairly long period of time, based on many different things.

People who need to know - know who I am.  Many call me Pj anyway, but many wouldn't know that because they don't know me.

I think I'm known for a measure of integrity on here.  I have in fact had Mike Boxhall  say as much to me in a phone conversation.

I have a pretty good idea of who I would trust on here and who I wouldn't.
Thats enough for me.

There are likely some on here who give all their details but don't necessarily reveal anything.

There are also hundreds and hundreds who lurk like sharks in the background never making a sound, just picking up morsels of useful info for themselves and never giving anything back.
There are those who make out they know everything, yet seem to know very little when it comes to it.
There are those who make out they know very little yet hide a great deal of what they know.
And so on....

I've been in the sun too long I think! 8)

More moderators would stop alot of the offensive posts or appoint new ones that can spend more time on the forum.

I'm not having a go at the 2 mods on this section as i know they've both got businesses to run.

There's a few people on here that would be more suitable as mods as they spend alot of time on here. PJ being one that springs to mind.

I have to say that there are times when I read the hateful and bitchy comments and I just cringe and yell at the screen "STOP THE MADNESS!"....I can't eat, do my job properly and when I eventually sleep I awaken sweating from the from nightmares I've been having.

My family life is suffering, sex life non-existent, I'm drinking to excess and started smoking again...my social life is a wreck.

Please guys stop the sniping...I'm getting suicidal tendencies and the family are hiding sharp objects, matches, sleeping pills etc.

Yeah right ;D

Yeah I have noticed this, most recently by your mate Sanity.

Maybe you should get your own house in order before you criticise others.

I've been tempted many a time to delete my membership because people whinge and moan over the slightest bit of banter, arguing, whatever. I'm forever getting posts deleted. It's suppose to be a forum to help each other out. Sometimes people read the posts the wrong way or post something without giving it much thought or consideration (myself included) and take things too personally to heart.
If you can't receive the dirt then don't dish it out. Treat others how you would like to be treated.
