Travelers tried to nick my Trailer
« on: May 05, 2008, 10:41:43 am »
3am this morning and I was woken by my Trailer alarm going off, as soon as I heard it, I dived out of bed to the window, I seen 2 blokes running over to a pick-up truck jumping in and driving off.

I phoned the police who I knew wouldn't be interested, well not  until you give them those little words??? I have there faces on CCTV, within minutes the police were here asking to see the CCTV, I played the DVD for them and the first thing the police said 'O' Yes we reconise them? There the travelers that are a mile or so away from me, they moved onto council owned land.
They asked to take the disk on for evidence?
Trouble was the copper told me they won't go onto the land and arrest them even with video evidence.

This makes me angry, I worked hard for my gear and with well over a grands worth of gear in there and the cost of a new trailer, I take every precaution to protect it, I have it chained to a metal post with a M/cycle lock around the chassis, I have a tow hitch lock on it with a closed shackle Abloy padlock, I have an alarm system on it, and most of all I have cctv with infra-red and a security light and non of that was going to stop these travelers wanting to nick it, but one thing no Thief likes? And that is noise, so I recon if it wasn't for the alarm system I would have woke up this morning minus my gear and trailer.

The only way I could have carried on with my work would have been back to ladders until the insurance company sorted them self's out and we all know that takes a few weeks and I don't really want to go back up ladders, I might have even said sod it and thrown in the towel on the business and all because of this thieving lot of scum.

I had my van stolen 3 years ago. luckily that was before I was wfp. it took me 2 days and £400 to replace my equipment and I had to work from a car for a few weeks til I got another van.

the police never even came to see me. they phoned me 2 weeks later to say they'd knocked a few doors and no-one had seen anything.

theiving scumbags make me sick.

if the police are too scared to arrest them even with cctv evidence, who the hell is running this country? the pikeys??

We have a gypsy site about 4 miles away from where I live and the last raid they did on them, there were over 100 police cars/vans and the helicopter, they like to go in force.
I bet that cost the tax payer a small fortune.

I found out this morning that the travellers that tried to nick my trailer, were there parked 17 lockup garages were broken into last week, I wonder who that was?

Its not just the gear they nick from us, its the hastle we have trying to keep our businness going.

and then there's the cost of clearing the rubbish, rubble and tree cuttings when they've moved on to the next unsuspecting land owner. sickening

It's a funny thing with travelers. They seem to be able to get away with murder because the police know that if they confront them then there will be hundreds of them at the site. So the police have two options 1. Go in with as much man power  etc as they can. 2. Ignore the problem and hope it goes away. With situations such as your trailer they take the second course of action - the easy option. The police will only commit manpower and resources to option 1 if they can bust a major crime ring e.g drugs, car theft or multiple offences. Anything smaller than that and the question of economics comes into it. This is wrong and what really annoys me about this is the travelers know they have safety in numbers and the police seem to forget it is us who pays their wages etc via our taxes. The travelers don't pay a penny towards the police force but seem to get special treatment. If I was to steal your trailer then would the police come and arrest me? Of course they would they know that it would be simple to come and arrest me without all the hassle they would have with the travelers. I think this is an amazing case of double standards especially when you consider that the police won't do a thing but if you were to go and dish out your own justice then the police would come knocking on your door. You can't win!

Stealing tools that  an honest needs to earn his living is a despicable crime.
I know what they would do in China, and they would send the bill for the bullet to the offenders family. Dai

I use a car alarm fitted inside the trailer, the power source is a wheel chair battery, this lasts a couple of months on one charge, but I change them over on a more regular basis to be on the safe side.
I only use the vibrations sensor on it and its a programmable one, I can actually kick the wheel and it gives out a little chirp to warn you its alarmed if you continue to mess with it, off goes the alarm.

To be on the safe side I have removed my poles and my hose reel along with my backpack, at least if there determined to nick it, I will have something I can carry on with.

any pictures? does it have a lid to hide everything, thats ideal a car alarm with the sensors, im sure i could wire that up easy enough. You would have thought the travellers would have stopped at seeing the locked tow hitch/ chained up etc..

I'm affraid I seen far to much in the trade to know if they want it, there is nothing that can stop them.
They were after either my trailer because it looks good or my gear to help then gain access to peoples properties, if there challenged on someones property they can show the gear and say they were after work.

The alarm systems for cars are very easy to wire up, if you ever need and advice just email me and I'll do what I can to help.

Thanks for putting the pictures up Joe, I tried to do it but he forum just won't let me post pictures from photobucket.

Hi Craig
Did you hear about all the garages that got done up Lysander road?
Glad the scum are getting moved on now, means the Boss can go to bed, told her she would have to camp out under the trailer Lol.

Is that the tank in Pauls Garden your on about? if so I'll have it, its only for in my shed for extra water, I can always weld up a new cage for it.
