the proper way!!
« on: May 02, 2008, 09:53:21 pm »
recently there has been a company dropping leaflets in an area i do alot of work but they were supposedly slagging off WFP(how i clean the windows) so i gave the guy a little call to clear the air, he seemed ok and we sorted it out so we didnt have an akward relationship has there was more than enough work for two window cleaners!

i lost 4 customers which was a very low amount so all seemed well, any way 10 weeks on he has been posting leaflets saying get your windows cleaned the proper way, the only way by HAND and its obvious its dig at my methods has he is trad and also 1 customer said he they were asking my prices obviously undercutting.

i was annoid at this has i recently passed on some details for is workers to canvass keeping our relationship sweet i thought! So today after finding out i rang him and after explaing my concerns he got aggresive i told him to have the balls to meet me and sort the matter out instead of hiding behind the phone and told him if he wanted to play dirty i would inform the relevent people that he had no employees insurance and didnt pay tax ect()has is employees were kind enough to tell me some details about the way he runs is so called proper business haha)

this ignited a fuse and he went mental calling me a grass abd threating me, well what i real want to know is who do i inform about these things so they get sorted has it seems unfair we should compete with such people who cant even be cival.

All info appreciated or i may have to give him a right hook haha joke

If you know someone whose business is not registered for tax call the Tax Evasion Hotline on 0800 788 887 (open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm) and HMRC will do something about it. You don't need to leave your name and address.

All the information will be looked at seriously to determine the most appropriate action. What HMRC will be able to do might depend on how much information you can give, so it's important to provide as many specific details as possible.

i agree with wc, report them to hmrc if i have to pay tax so do they and if i make quite a large profit from last year then the payment on account is a killer so shop the cowboys...

I would have a reward system for exposing somone as a cheat ( bennefits or tax ) say 20% of the money saved !  People need a bit of an incentive for their troubles .

Forget the tax man, useless because window cleaning money is usually cash with these types, which is untraceable.  Also although likey they are employees its unlikely there is a proper agreement, he will be classing them as self employed and its very difficult to prove otherwise.

YES i would defo report them to the health and safety bods, or by all means email me the details and I will gladly remport them.

Blasted ladder monkeys, the "proper" way indeed, we need to force them out.  The sooner the h&s people get used to complaints about window cleaners breaking the regulations the better.

I havent seen a ladder monkey all week, they seem to have gone into hiding, usually i'm tripping over em.  Got all fired up for some action but now feel let down.  Oh well, next week i'll be on the hunt again.

Cant wait till i've done at least 3, will be good to see what happens, even got myself a better phone with a zoom camera.  There'll be no escape.

Google "benefit fraud hotline" and you can report people who are working and claiming at the same time. They want facts though. Names addresses etc

Yes it can be a problem finding a window cleaner on a ladder when you can only go out at night.
