I would have thought that with your money you could have afforded something a bit newer!

Only joking, Its a great van and I bet it gets you noticed.

Who was it that made "old" vans a few years back?
vince, there was a company a few years back that used to make replica old vans with spoke wheels etc, if i remember rightly they were a pig to drive with no pas but did look good nevertheless, our local daily echo had 1 or 2.
i think the donor parts were ford transit

Yes, I remember them, was the company called Asquith?

Fantastic looking van J, I bet the first name that gets mentioned is yours if anyone starts to talk about wanting a w/c.

Just think if it was first registered a year later, it would have been an A reg van, the first registrations using letters started back in 1963.

Is it the old pull starter on the Dash? I think it was the split screen that had the starter button on the floor.
Very nice van you have there, it reminds me of my old A35 van I used to have.
I'm so envious of you Lol

hi jeff
yes pull start, no frills or spills very basic in them days to corner the market,
no heaters, no carpet etc, they kept them simple and cheap to sell to tradesmen and big companys such as gpo, telecom, waterboard as fleet vans :)

When my bro got his first job as an office equipment repairman with a company vehicle in 1971 (at the age of 19) the very last Morris Minor vans (with a 1098cc) engine were being sold on a "J" reg. He got one and in the school holidays I would sometimes go with him on his patch, which was Gloucestershire.

He had a brilliant trick (I thought at age 12, anyway!) which involved coasting down a hill - in gear but with the ignition off -  underneath a brick arch railway viaduct in Stroud town he would turn the ignition back on and there would be an almighty backfire like a gun going off! ;D

Everyone would jump out of their skins, but one day he did it and split the silencer from end to end and had to drive home in a deafening roar.

In 1974 the van was replaced with a Bedford HA "Telecom" type van which was much more modern, had a mighty 1256cc engine and a heater that worked! But alas we couldn't get a backfire out of it no matter how we tried.

Come forward to 1976 and I get my first car - a 1957 948cc non split screen Morris Minor car into which my bro put an economy gauge, an oil pressure gauge and an ammeter. I thought I was the dogs wotsits struggling up to 63 mph on the flat, no synchro on first gear , double de-clutching to go into 1st on that sharp left-hander up under the Iron bridge in Bristol, and yes it would backfire like the van!

Happy single days - I even had a 1963 Royal Enfield 500cc sports twin which the mechanic over the road helped me rebuild at the same time!
It's a game of three halves!

Ref: Where did I see your van?

Not on the road but when I picked up the 125 tank.

Looks even better now you have it sign written.

Well done. It was a pleasure just to see the van. Well worth the trip!

Hi Jay
I can't remember if it was McPherson shocks they had, liquid filled made for a noisy bumpy ride, but Just like your van they will go on forever.
You have a fantastic looking van there Jay, Including myself, you have a lot of envious fellow shiners on here.

When ever I do the retired custys, I always try to make a point of having a look through a garage window, just to see if there is a heap of a gold mine there, so far I have the promise of a classic merc, the old man can't drive anymore,  he and his Mrs said when he goes, I can come along and take the car away.
I hate healthy old men Lol

many years ago a old lady customer of mine ask to do  a minor job on her garage, imagine my surprise when i opened the door to find a ford classic in mint condition under wraps, i duly asked if it was for sale but her reply was she could not part with it as it belonged to her late husband.

sadly a few years later she also passed away and i never found out what happened to the car.

another story almost identicle, my mate who's a decorator came across an e-type in a lady's lounge (no kidding) again the lady would not part with it due to late husbands toy from new.
one day he gets call from the lady asking him if he still wanted it.
to cut the story short he got it for £15,000 got it back on the road now worth £35,000 and he comes with me to classic car events.

finally i have another customer (BIG house 3 garages) with 3 austin sevens, 2 rolls and 1 bently
needless to say we are also goods friends and talk classic cars over coffee everytime i go there to clean and we sometimes meet at events. i must remember to stay on good terms with him, you never know the window cleaner may be left something in the will ;)
