Good luck Mark

My Mrs just got the all clear this morning on something similar. Very worrying. Thing with lymph nodes is that they sweel up from simple infections too and this is much more likely. My Dad had non-HL and annd my sister had HL and they are both now fit as a fiddles.

Yes i have had a run of nasty stuff recently, not sure why i am usually as fit as a fiddle, had a gum infection on one of my wisdom teeth, this in turn gave me atricularia for a fortnight ! then last week the one node on my right side swelled up i thought it was a mozzy bite so i gave it a good squeeze didn`t stop bleeding after that  :(.All my glands on my neck were swollen and had really bad neck ache,i put this down to being really busy cleaning carpets, then noticed the other day that the node on my left side is really swollen and painfull and i can`t squeeze it as it hurts too much !
called doc spoke to nurse she wants me to go see her this arvo just to put my mind at rest i hope ! off to greece next week so don`t want this hanging over me...

Thanks folks , the internet can be very disturbing reading up on stuff ! does not help being a smoker like you say , my nan still smokes and has done since she was 14 she is now 89 and still chuffing away , think i may give up in 2 years when i am 40.To be honest i enjoy smoking, i get my baccy from belgium so it costs me £5 per week for 50g so it`s not a £ thing just a health thing.

If you're at the doctors and they offer you a cup of tea, I hope they don't ask if you want one lump or two!  ;D

Just kidding.  Listen, I had a very nasty cancer when I was 20 or so, and they used to check my lymphatic glands regularly; not only the ones in the neck, but also the little blighters that are somewhere in your guts.  They can feel them in there to if you're not a fatty.  I think there are some that sit near the spine and can issue very unpleasant poisons that eventually kill.  Chemo was the answer back then.

I smoked too for 18 years and stopped, and it was the best thing knowing that I had pretty much elminated one of the reasons why I might get swellings.

Good luck. :)

Mark sorry to hear your news and glad it seems to be sorting itself.

You may remember I started a thread recently about "the doctor isn't feeling well", well that was just the start of it!

Having straightened out the cartilage in my nose, that disturbed the blood supply. A polyp became obvious which has cut off my breathing in my left nostril again big time.

After a biopsy and a CT scan I have been diagnosed with a fibromilga. In other words a tumour. Luckily it is benign. Unluckily it is 6x3x0.5cm and is growing in the cynus of my left cheek. Like my spinal tumour it is also very rare! (one of my friends is jealous; he only gets common tumours.)

I am being sent to London to have it removed be a consultant who is considered a world expert as he does them approximately once a month!

It will mean being off work for about 3-4 weeks!

But thanks goodness for private health insurance. Three operations in 4 months must be a record.

That's an interesting thought; how many of us have private health insurance?

Being self employed it does give us some control over managing illness. But how many of us have it?

Is it that we've never really thought about it or do we not have it as a matter of principle or is it that it is genuinely too expensive? Bear in mind that it is not just the premium you must decide about but the opportunity cost of losing business because we are not well enough but if problems were quickly sorted would allow us to get back to full strength quickly?

What do you guys think?
