ABC CWL BFG RTE New magazine

I think with the comments from the post about setting up a new window-cleaning magazine you have a big ladder to climb.
This as been tried before and you know the outcome.

I have a solution that you could look at, the FWC have all this in place they just need some editorial, and they have tried all different ways to get this, it is independent and trusted by most manufactures that already advertise in window talk.

It is free to members but I am sure that non-members can be charged for it, they already send out a lot quarterly

This is just an idea please do not attack it with FWC bashing.

Please contact me if you want to discuss this

Sounds excellent

I have always liked your mag and would love the option of buying it without being a member.

Sounds a good idea and that's what we need, good ideas.

If you read some of my posts on the other thread I hope I didn't come across as negative or bashing. What i was trying to do was help give them some direction, and also keep the thread alive so that others would post and chip in ideas. My tag at the bottom is a joke (jokes are allowed)

Ahh - that would explain why I haven't had one for a while! July 2006. So has 'window talk' finished now?

Bryan,
So you want us to do the hard work for you. After discussion it seems to Sanity  and I that the FWC has seen what we are doing and thought what a great idea. If we start selling Window Talk to the public we can jump on the bandwagon.  Window Talk is the NEWSLETTER (that's what it says on the cover) of the FWC and is not the independent magazine we are striving to create. Window talk doesn't fulfill our ambitions and while I like Window talk I don't think that it has the same aims as us with "The Shiner".  The issue of content, because you can't find content you want us to come and rescue you? A quick look through the issues I have shows that Window Talk tends to focus on reporting trade issues to do with the FWC (as it should it's their newsletter) and there are no product reviews amongst other things. I am sure that discount will claim that is because you don't want to upset advertisers by reviewing products but, this is just one area where the shiner will be a totally different kettle of fish we have the content. If the FWC decides they will sell Window Talk to the public then good luck to them. We will view it as competition but we wish you luck. We don't see you as a threat because as I explained, Window Talk is the FWC's   trade newsletter, The Shiner an independent magazine for window cleaners written by window cleaners.  One final thing one of the main reasons we have decided not to take you up on your suggestion is that for a magazine to be independent it needs to be run by people who have no connection with a supplier or trade body. If we joined with you we would be wide open to any problems that your members may cause. I well remember newsnight - How great would that be, there we are in Window Talk running the ultimate WFP guide and there's your man on national television saying that WFP does not work.  A lot of people were upset by the newsnight (sorry to drag up the past by the way but I hope you get my point) comments and they are the people who I am trying to sell Window Talk to. Suddenly because of the comments of one member I am unable to sell the the thing to the target audience because as far as they are concerned the FWC has upset them so why line their pockets and buy their newsletter? I feel that although your idea has it's merits Sanity and I will not be pursuing it for the reason stated above. Thank you for the suggestion but  it not something we are looking to do at the moment.
Thank you

No i didn't see the point.  As I said above I don't believe there can be an independent magazine thats tied to a trade body. For that reason alone we decided that it was a non starter.

Naah! with the largest data base of  potentially interested WC subscribers  why should we bother with them? Do you think we're stupid?

As Dave suggests what harm could it have done to talk? Even if it came to nothing the chap was just being helpfull.

As i understood it you were to co-ordinate articles written by others. There are  some big fish and big articles floating about potentialy(Ians windex talk for one).

What you say about window talk being a newsletter is true. You made some good points, but has it occured to you that what you are heading towards is merely a forum newsletter.

look at the "issues" when that committee member went on newsnight, that could have set back the industry ( the WFP anyway ) back ages

i could name other issues that hasnt Particularly shown the FWC in a good light

a independent mag would be a good thing, a mag tied to a company ( ala what we have now ) would just be what we have now, do we need 2 of them ? ? ?  ?

as i said

good call pete

We discussed it  for a long time. I think our reasons are good enough. The funny thing is that Window Talk is just a newsletter and now your saying that by not working with the FWC all we are going to produce a forum newsletter well hang on a second, one of the reasons we decided to distance ourselves from window talk was because we wanted to produce something more than a newsletter. The point you make about their database, do you honestly think they would let us have access to that? I doubt it and if they did there would be conditions attached i.e work for them and produce Window Talk on their behalf and if we did that then our idea for an independent magazine is dead as what we would then create certainly wouldn't be independent.  We will be happy to feature the FWC in our magazine and it would be brilliant if the FWC would tell their members about us but we are not prepared to do a deal which results in a watered down version of our idea. We know that we can produce a great magazine why would we want to compromise that?

At least speak to the guy , see whats on the table, I think it is foolish to discount something before you know the full offer.

To start from scratch in the window cleaning world, is a very tall order, I know from my time with the APWC how difficult things can be.
