I started 35 years ago when I was 18 with my mate steve to earn some spending cash. We worked Saturdays cleaning windows on the South Ruislip estate where Steve lived. We had to work there because we had to carry the ladder everywhere, we had no transport.

I am now 54. For most of the intervening years I have done a bit from time to time but with long gaps. Now, when I thought I would be finished with such things I am a full time and enjoying it. Its a healthy job and I like the freedom.

I know one young window cleaner (26) who is a fourth generation window cleaner. His great-grandfather was a window cleaner in Plymouth and so on down through the generations.

Started in 1969 with a company called A.F.Cheese & Co doing all schools in London.  Did about two years with them then set up on my own, been doing it ever since with just a couple of breaks where I thought there had to be something better - there isn't ;D

39 years by my reckoning.

Started in 1959 when I was 17, no squeegee in them days, just a leather mop and scrim.
I stuck it for about a year. Went back to window cleaning in 1993 after redundancy from the engineering industry. Been WFP 3 years come August. Dai
