Not really burnt but scorched, 80-20 wool and nylon how do I get it off or minimise damage?

I have the perfect solution. You need a lump of volcanic rock. It's black and full of little holes that have razor sharp edges. To get some, book a 2 week holiday in Lanzarotte of some other volcanic island. It works a treat at taking the top surface off wool carpet.

Second thoughts. I'll go on holiday and send you a lump when I get back.

Seriously, I'll ask around and see if I can get you a bit.

I don't know about Sheffield, but there are not a lot of volcano's in Essex.

The standard treatment for scorched wool is course sandpaper but I have also used a velvet boffin and on one occasion a suede brush - All used with delicacy.

Any of these will remove black ash but will only improve light scorching.

why not try shaving the carpet either with some hair clippers or a flexed stanley knive.

is'nt a pummel stone that you use on your corns volcanic rock ?

i to have had a similar problem a few years ago,turned out it was not scorched it was were i had presprayed oved the solution line so no prespay had hit the carpet ,when carpet had dries you could see a snakey type swirl in the fibres,quick prespray & reclean of the areas purfect result.

Definately scorched as I am typing from the dog house, it looks as though a cat has run it's arse along the carpet.

Did not know cat did that, but have seen sister in laws mutt (staff) doing it, I charge £75, Christ it Monday tomorrow the little (nice dog) is round here for the week 9 till 5 so no house keeping for the wife.

I've just about done it, sand paper as John Bolton suggested couldn't find a volcano without getting pushed in, vacuumed then sanded then I vacuumed again, applied MS brushed in, extracted applied Chemspecs browning treatment left for a scientifically timed 'bit' and then extracted.

May try again tomorrow I'll see if I can see it from my hiding place.......under the table...doh!

For volcanic rock, try the Bar-b-que stores.

This rock goes under the wire for cooking on.

Don't use used rock.
