You have should no problems using just DI.

I would recommend you running a twin DI system as this will allow your resin to last much longer, to illustrate:

1x 25litre sack of resin will produce about 10,000 litres on a single DI system
1x 25litre sack of resin will produce about 16,000 litres on a twin DI system

If you use about 250 litres a day on a 4 day week then you will get either 10 or 16 weeks from a single bag of resin (about £80).

Your RO should get it down to about 001-004ppm.

If you are using a 700ml resin vessel then it should last about 4500 litres or a sack will last about 17,000 litres!

Hi Paul

The water from a DI only system will be far far faster than from an RO system. I was in a similar situation to you  few months ago. I purchased an RO and ran it like that. It was so slow and on reflection I didn't really need it as my TDS is only about 45.

I bought 2 x 6ltr vessels from eBay, a 25kg sack of resin and ditched the RO in January. I linked the DI's together after the TDS in the first unit rose above 5. Now the first DI has the used resin and the second DI has the good resin to polish the water down to 0. When the TDS rises I empty the first DI and put DI no 2 in its palce. I then refill the first DI and put it in the place of number 2. That way you can use the resin until its TDS is nearly the same as your tap water an it will still be doing some good.

I use about 300 ltrs 5 days a week and I still haven't had to buy more resin.

From facts and figures I have from other customers

1 di vessel with 25l bag with tds will give you around 17,000 litres + at tds 45, 2 di system will give you more. This is dependant on what resin you use though.

If you have an r/o system then 25l bag will last you for years so best to buy small quantity of resin

Couldn't agree more, use purolite & watch those figures drop, big time! ;)

mines is about 50 tds and i us di only can fill 250litre tank in about 15 mins
the time saving makes up for the extra cost as far as i am concerned

What would you recommend instead of the purolite. My last bag was purolite and it doesn't seem to last as long as I would have hoped.

If you filled your tank with tap water & had the DI's in the van your resin will last longer. Only a minimum flow rate would be going through them this way + you could top your tank up from custy's tap if you run low. ;)

But be careful in the rural area, I did this and my resin went downhill. Tested the water and was 450ppm, water was from a bore hole :(
