So what do you do Doug? Im tinkering with the idea of  sending them a call out charge (in my case £50.00). Maybe this would need to be explained to them when they book an appointment.

these customers are a real pain, i wish their bosses would stop their wages because their boss didn't want to go into work that day, they wouldn't like that happening to them. that said, it thankfully doesn't happen that often to me but when it does, it seems to be a couple of times in the same week!! too much hasle to try and make a charge for a no show, lifes too short to get wound up by it,

I agree with Col but just annoyed really, the main problem being I had told a woman that I couldn't fit her appointment in on this date and she went elsewhere.

Send them a invoice it will make them think twice about doing it again.

They wont pay but you can write it of as a lose.

about a year ago i did a S & S removal for this customer, when i finished the job she book me to come back to clean her bedroom carpet, 3 weeks later i turned up on her door of which her daughter answered and she said can we leave it today!!! i was spitting feathers and i told her that i really enjoy being messed about, why on earth could you not pick up the phone earlier to let me know!!! anyway, a few months later she phoned up to book me in again, made appointment with her with know intention of turning up! ha! ha! ha! i thought, now your gonna get a taste of your own medicine >:( a bit of time went bye and i thought better of it and phoned to cancel.... i'm not a malicious person, but i try to operate a zero tolerance carpet cleaning service......... found out later that this person has done the same thing to several other carpet cleaners. if she phones me again, would any of you's be interested in taking her on?????? Sh*t happens from time to time.  As CBT says, life is to short to spend time worrying about it.  Move on and if it gets to you, you shouldn't be in the service industry

Turned up for an all day job, knocked on door, women opened door and looked suprised. Yes? she said.

Still not sure if genuine or taking the pee. Showed her inspection form time confirmation etc. She reckons it wasn't booked at all, now that was just not the case.

Anyway no point argueing and managed a smile till got out the door.

Went through a phase of confirming every job by post, got out of the habit, going to get back into it again. :'(

I have checked this out and you are quite within your rights to charge your out off pocket expenses.

i always start my letter `under advice from trading standards` and if you do not settle the enclosed invoice within 7 days it will be forwarded to a debt recovery agency or the county courts for recovery. Any additional costs and interest will be added to the invoice.

Go in hard why should you lose income because these people are ignorant.

I have used the letter 4 times and on 2 occasions i have received a cheque.

If people have a genuine reason why they werent in then i have found that they re book immediately.

Had one regular custy i worked for who had me out every couple of months, turned up on 1 occasion to clean after she had booked me .Got to the house her daughter was there ,sorry you can`t clean today , ok why did she not get in touch,oh her phone is broken, there was a phone box about 2 doors away. Then for about 2 months she would call me at all times of day and night once at 3am ! i got sick of it so called her back and mentioned the phone calls ,oh sorry must have been my daughter getting hold of my phone.
Told her to delete my no in the end as i would not be cleaning for her ever again..Nightmare

Best 1 todate 7.07am this morning for an 8.30 job, cancellation due to ....well can't be bothered really! telling me he was in London and couldn't get back and didn't leave keys as arranged but the funny thing is I could hear the radio in the back ground and it was the same local radio station as I was listening to.
