hi guys been asked to price a job up it is ( there words ) marble cleaning and restoration, not seen the job yet but how would you clean marble its not dirty i dont think, its a posh reception area , the way i was thinking was micro fibre and water, any other sugestions greatly appreciated.

If it is marble,  Check if it is polished (shiny).  If it is polished check if is a natural created polish or a surface polish applied to the stone.  Has the marble dulled in any area and if so why? Spillages etc?.  Are there any stains in the stone that need to be removed, you will need to check what exactly the stains are before you can say that you can remove them or not (and then get training on how to remove them).  DO NOT touch the stone with any kind of acidic cleaner as it will damage the stone, you can clean the stone with an alkaline cleaner as long as it is recommended to be used on natural stone.    is the stone scratched and do they want the scratches removed, is the floor level, if not do they want it levelled.

Then find yourself a training course on how to do this kind of work.

If you do not know anything about marble it would be a good idea to pass on this job, there is a big difference between cleaning and restoration. Restoration could involve the use of grinding to bring up the polished look which involves the use of very expensive equipment. There is also a process called crystalization which transorms the surface of the marble. If you want to get involved in the stone cleaning industry training is a must as you can do alot of damage.

hey up guys thankyou for the replies, will not know untill next week what they are after but i got a feeling from speaking to the manager that all it is is basicly cleaning down the walls and keeping on top of it as its sound like a very posh reception.thanks again and will let you know exactly what the want.
