I'm talking about a 9am-4pm sort of day.

Comment on how many houses you'd get done with your amount of water too if you'd like.

I'm gonna get a tank fitted soon, and wondering what size i'll most probably need.

I've heard a few say 250 litres is plenty.

I'll get through a back pack on an average £15-£20 house (15-18 litres) depending on frames of course.

around 350litres per 'normal' day...but I am trying to get a couple of inline water meters so that I can work out how much I really need...one of the aims of this is to limit the amount of water I carry (hence weigth) owing to the increasing fuel prices.

I have a 400L tank and I use it all on a 9am/4pm domestic day. (Probably 380 actually because it is a layflat and I have to park carefully to get the last 20 litres from it.) I am careful with my water too eke it out.

My doblo's payload will let me add another 50/75 litres before I hit the weight limit and I will probably put a couple of barrels on board to do just that.

On a longer day, with some commercial, I start at say 7am, go home at 2 for a bite to each while adding another  200litres which will last me 'til 5pm.

If all goes to plan I am seriously considering going for a scudo, or whatever is available new when I change vans in 2010.
It's a game of three halves!

I would get at least a 400L tank.
Including setting up/ packing away and driving from street to street, that will allow you easy enough for one man full day especially if you have inside work and blade the bottoms.

250 is plenty,i don`t think so you`ll be checking your tank for the water level every 5 mins worrying you might run out.Always take out more water than you`ll need.

Working average day, hours you describe 350 - 400 litres per man.  If it's less thats because I've been driving or talking more than working

Depending on the work i will use between 200ltr and 350 ltr per day the difference between the two figures is that on some days i have trad work to do or i have days where i use my backpack and that uses less than the van mount

I would go for the biggest tank you can carry safely better to have to much than to little.

250l is now where near enough for a days work for me I have used less somedays but thats very rare more like 400 ish. As NHW said you dont want to have to check it every 5 mins.

I have a 650l tank run out once.

I have a 650ltr tank and it lasts me 2 days and there's always some left in there.

I would say 300ltrs a day

Well I use a tap on the pole, so will be careful not to waste it.

I'm using a backpack at the mo, but I wonder if not carrying enough water will reflect badly on my work because I won't be rinsing properly, being paranoid about running out.

Especially as i'm just starting with WFP.

What do you think??

I guess it depends on how much work you want to do a day really if you have just started out maybe best to carry on as you are for a few months and then see what you use on a daily basis and that will give you a better idea. When you first start with wfp you will use more water for first cleans etc and after a few cleans you probably will not need as much on each house as when you first cleaned them.
I'm just going by my experience really

You should buy a tank that will accommodate your "busiest" day, not your "average" day!

I made that mistake,.. and while my 400 litre tank does me fine most days, any big commercial jobs mean filling barrels, worrying about running out, extra stress and extra hassle.

If I did it again, I'd defo go for a 650 litre tank.

Yeah but my van is only about 600kg payload, and has back seats.

I can fit a 250l flat comfortably, or even a 350 flat, but i wonder what the weight will do to my suspension with the tank being right up to the back doors on the van, rather than being in the middle somewhere with the weight transfered over both axles.

I would like to keep the back seats in (young family)  they do fold down, but obviously can''t fix tank to them or through them!

I think you have answered your own question really if you can only fit a 250lt in the back then there is no point looking into getting anything bigger unless you change your van.

Just get a large storage tank so you can nip home at lunch time and refill.
