Gutter cleaning
« on: April 06, 2008, 10:59:51 am »
I have been asked to price up a huge gutter cleaning job, its on a large 3 storey apartment block in Surrey, I don't fancy getting up there on a ladder especially at the front as the ground is very uneven, does anyone know if it is possible to hire out a gutter vac from anywhere?

I guess thats a no then!! Does anyone have a gutter vac in this area who would like a large gutter cleaning job? Or any ideas would be appreciated, I have thought about a cherry picker, but have never used one before, do you require a license?

Most site you will need a license for using a MEWP and "too right" they can be fatal in the wrong hands

Omipole hire out the Gutter Vacuum Systems but I am sure its not cheap but you can past on the cost to the customer

buy or hire the system... OR  do you know another cleaner that may want to go 50/50 with you on purchasing the job lot?

I will give omnipole a ring, I don't really want to purchase a system as they are pricey and I have heard that they are not that great! Has anyone got an omnivac and how do you find it?

Depending on which part of Surrey it might be worth giving these guys a ring...

Hire prices can be found at www.omni-guttervac.com   or you could sub contract the work to a local guttervac user, we have records of the areas our customers work in so if you want to email your details feel free, Their are many users in Surrey, so itsjust a case of us putting you in touch with the closest operator.

Thanks for the replies lads, they have been a great help! I am going to give Glyn a call as the hire prices actually seem fairly reasonable, and well worth it for a large job like this one!! I like the idea of being able to try out the omnivac without having to go to the expense of buying, once I've tried it out I can decide if it's worth while investing in one!
Sorry Ian but no pictures at the moment, I may try and get up there tomorrow and take a few to post, because I must admit I am not sure how to price it!

Cheers  :)

Sort of around the £250 mark by the look of it (plus VAT I guess), by the time you add on the generator camera etc.
Must be a lot of gutters to clear out, as that wouldn't be justifyed on a three bed semi.

It's a bit bigger than a 3 bed semi  ;D It's a huge building!!! I am only really showing an interest in cleaning the gutters for them as I am hoping to be able to quote for the windows when the contract comes up for renewall!!  ;)

If you show a picture, you might get someone coming forward and giving you a better price for hire than omnipoll, or even just sub it to them for a cut.

Or even just say how much you might charge to do the clean assuming you had the machine?

If I had a photo I would post it Ian, I didn't get chance to get up there today, but hopefully will tomorrow! I don't think I want to sub it out as I am quite keen to try out the omnivac for myself as I may want to invest in one at some stage.
I don't know how much to charge for the job as yet as I have never taken on a gutter cleaning job of this size before, I haven't measured the guttering, but I would estimate there to be in excess of 350 metres of gutter!! Hopefully if I can get a photo for tomorrow, some of you guys may be able to help me with the price.

Cheers  ;)

If you charge £1 pm, (£350 total) and the hire of the vac is £250, that's clears you £100.   :( (b4 tax etc.)

But can you really charge more per metre without the people laughing at you? I too am very interested in how this goes for you.

Thanks for your interest Ian, I wouldn't bother pricing this job if I thought that all I could get would be £1 a metre!!! :( I was thinking more like £3 per metre and add the cost of the omnivac hire to the price!! That's more like it!!!  ;D

Hopefully get some photos tomorrow!! ;)

IMO £1 pm is way way to cheap
