New report out today saying carpet cleaner can contribute to kids having asthema problems.  Also mentioned bleach, paint stripper, window cleaner, air freshners etc.

What are they doing drinking it!

A report to be published tomorrow is to alert the public to the dangers of water, milk and filter coffee makers - all these can kill your children 

Yes, these hidden dangers lurk in our homes, are even permitted  in our hospitals and five-star hotels and who knows what misery they can bring..............................

Newspapers will sensationalise anything.

True a baby left unattended in a bath of milk or water is  in danger, a simple coffee maker can kill if mis-wired or dropped out of a 747 flying at 10,000 feet.

It is equally true that some carpet cleaning chemicals can adversly effect the health of some people but by the time the tabloids have picked out the sensational from any report the readers are often left with entirely the wrong impression.

They must have it backwards, dirty carpet is bad for you and can contribute to indoor air pollution, this can cause a health problems.

The report referred to above is for household cleaning products.

Yesterday though, I heard a contradictory quotation on Radio 2 from a representative of the retail cleaning chemical producers who stated that he felt that the report was too narrowly focused, and there are many other factors that need to be considered re. Childhood Asthma. To support his statement, he quoted the case of Italy. They use far more of these cleaning products than the Brits, but their incidence of childhood Asthma is much lower.

I remember years ago when I sold double glazing they said this was responsible for childhood illnessess like asthema :

the report said that double glazing ( & the lack of coal fires)  made the home almost airtight. This causes a lack of fresh air in the home, concentrating all the pollutents.

Perhaps a little (well, maybe a lot) of R&D into Sonic Cleaning would give us chemical free cleaning. For the sake of discussion, I presume that water, in whatever state or temperature, is regarded as a chemical.

For really trashed carpets, we could always have Pyro Cleaning
