just to worn some ,i used a ladder today to reach over a lower building to reach a window.NOT thinking as it was a large job nearly finished i put it on decking boards which where wet due to my wfp .Well got about 11ft up just about to get ready to clean this window and away i went like superman back wards.Luckly still holding on to the ladder as it slid along the decking boards and off the end and it did'nt twist it hit the path and stoped,I think i have aged ten years

1 second with you're mind not 100% and these things can happen.
In the past I've had 3 ladder incidents, each, when thinking about it was my fault without doubt, and each time as the ladder starts its move you see you're life pass before you.
Worst that happened was the ladder twisted as I was on my way down. My foot caught in the rung and I was left hanging upside down with a foot stuck in the ladder.

I WFP most of the time and use ladders only for access. Decking is a big, NO, NO, in my book. I wouldn't put a ladder on decking for all the money in the world or any ladder safety device fitted.

top tip for decking...

...get a lenth of decking as long as your ladders with andcut groves in it so your ladder feet can slide in and foot the ladder. then put a few small nails in it about 10 should do it. make it so they patroode about 5mm.

then put the nailed deck board on the floor where you want your ladder footed nail points down so they dig in to the egsisting decking and your ladder will be footed perfictly safe. then when your finnished just lift nailed deck board and you wont even notice the tiny holes it made.

That's the same idea as the ladderm8 with metal pins. Don't any of your customers moan about you marking their lovely decking? I tried that once when a customer had just laid a new decking and they dropped me. They would rather I risk my life to clean 1 poxy window then mark their decking. Funny ****** some people.

dont mark the decking to be honest but i know what you mean if some of my customas saw me do it they would ask me not to even though there was no make left. thats just customas for ya aint it? cant live with them cant live without them.

Strange, because when I use my ladderm8rix, I don't think I leave anything behind? Unless I slide it into position of course.

i have a ladderm8rix but i hardly ever use it anymore, use a ladder mate base stabiliser, much better no marks left in the floor and impossible for the ladder to slip backwards

Laddertec stabiliser arms can slip on decking. It's about the only thing my ladder stabiliser device won't stop me slipping on, even with the ladder at the right angle on dry decking in the winter. Ladderm8rix is better for decking although you wouldn't catch me trad on decking nowadays.

Decking is leathal, but we all know this, but till it sadly happens to you, 99% take no notice and will continue to clean window without a stabilty device and break the law. yes i mean break the law. People wil answer back with all kinds of answers, and i dont have wfp or reach & wash but manage to run a good company for the past 18 years, and for the 18 without breaking the law. So i am not a WFP trying to knock the ladder lads, just for £30 get a stability device at least or a normal pole, £60.
Its not worth it and will give you confidence. How many lads have lost days off work or months with a ladder fall.

Some decking is even dodgy to walk on. I hate hearing about these things because when I read what happened to you it was like I was there, I can imagine it so vividly.

I had a ladder blow sideways about three years ago and it was all in slow motion and if I close my eyes now I am back on it as it went down.
I wasn't hurt, not even a scratch only a few bruises and very shaken up.

It was one of the reasons I went to WFP and now I am really ladder shy. I still use a ladder every day but I never feel safe.

These devices saved my life. I also had a ladder slip with a rubber matting device. Its virtually impossible for the ladder to go with these on.
