Recently Len posted a picture of a water claw, and JB said he'd once made one.  I've had a few jobs where I wondered if they would be a worth while investment, and no I didn't cause the floods. Are they better at drawing water from a sodden carpet than say using a wand? If so could how would you make it, or should I just go and buy one.

They are worth having for spot treatment, especially where a spill has penetrated to the substrate. One advantage is that you can set it up and walk away to do something else they can even be very effective with a low-power vacuum, such as a spotting machine.

For flood work they cover too small an area to be viable.

When I made mine they were not available on the market, but now I would buy rather than spend the time building.

I use my claw all the time for spots and floods. It works great. I have the mid size one. 

When you use it in ft of the customer they are impress on how it extract the water.
