Welcome to the pole
It takes some getting used to but your muscles do adapt after a few weeks. A carbon pole is much lighter and does make a big difference when stretching over conservatory roofs. For sixty quid you could adapt a carbon fishing pole but it would be delecate. If you have the money wait a couple of weeks? for Gardiners new telescopic carbon pole.

a carbon pole would be a lot lighter , ive just got a 24 foot facelift which is lighter than the 18 ft fiberglass , as for the pain in your neck and speaking from experiance after having neck surgery extending your neck backwards for periods of time will cause pain there is some simple exercises that you can do to ease this . when i get back in later i will scan them and post them on chat section for you to have a look at .

I found doing some yoga exercises helped when I started wfp. Don't do them so often now but they did seem very beneficial for reducing various aches.

When i started the other month i had the same.
Sore neck mussles and arms because your using muscles you dont normaly use, i did notice my legs to be alot better after a days work on ladders sometimes they would ache and stuff.
anyway to the point now after a few weeks using the pole iv got used to it and i find im gettin less aches and stiffness! and feel alot better and the end of the day! i use a 27ft hybird for all my work.

Anyone notice their body shape has changed? I seem to have developed bigger arms and shoulders since poleing last year. Mind you i've grown in other areas too.

in the meantime buy ibubrofen tablets from the chemist as they are inflamitorys and painkiller in one, or you will end up like me of for two weeks with a torn muscle in my arm

the aches i think are generally down to muscle fatigue , some have said they go to the gym yet still get pains that is because their muscles are not being trained for endurance but rather for strengh if you check this website at
www.fitness4x4.com
and watch the video you will see what i mean, they sell a training video that shows you how to achieve this upper body endurance and believe me it works, i can now hold 20kg in each hand and put them above my head for 300 reps without stopping so when i use a watere fed pole even a heavy 60ft one i dont ache or anything even if used for a long time

Joints feel it too, tennis elbow flares up now an again. My elbow feels like I banged my funny bone five minutes ago. The slightest touch on the part that's sore feels like an electric shock.
Gave myself the day off, should be right by Monday. Dai

I'm 38 years old, so knocking on a bit; not as much as Gilesy whose nearly dead (I'm poised to take his round once he kicks the bucket) but I use the 'Working Class' method of dealing with aches, pains and lumps.
This basically involves doing nothing; just cracking on with work like you normally do, and hope for the best.
I'll let you know in a few years if I've been successful or not.
