Can I walk on it?
« on: December 22, 2004, 03:07:20 am »
After you finish your carpet job, the home owner ask you, Can I walk on it? I advise them that it is wet and slippery. Is this the right thing to say?

Is it still "wet" after you have finished?

We try to dry the carpet as much as possible with dry passes and blowers. Leaving it slightly damp is acceptable, asking the client to stay off it as long as possible until it is completely dry. Provide the client with overshoes if necessary and some safety instructions about moving from damp carpet onto hard flooring.
Leaving the client with "wet" carpet is not necessary and should be avoided.

Also make them aware that not to wear coloured socks or slippers whilst the carpet is still damp the dyes from your footwear may transfer to the carpet leaving permanent stains

You can't  tell people they can not walk on the carpet especially when its the hall or stairs that have just been cleaned.

Of course you can advise them not.Just ask them to wear slippers or supply them with shoes covers to use until its dry.If they then walk on it and re-soil it then its there problem not yours.

You can also get carpet paper which is about 18" wide which you can roll across the carpet when damp and they can walk on this until its dry.

Leave them plastic botties to put on when walking esp from outside.

KL cleaning - what your talking about would only be an acceptable level of clean in about 1% of my jobs.  If you want dryer get Texatherm.  But if you it clean you have to use water esp on residential carpet.
