dilemma here
« on: March 02, 2008, 12:51:26 pm »
ok i work FT in a good job and have a Vw golf  worht about 3.5k which is finance free. I have 4.5k for a van for my WFP. i will only be working part time at weekends and stuff till i find out what it is like etc etc.

anyways i am unsure whether i should sell the golf and bank the money or run 2 vehicles. one will be parked up most of the time not earning me money whils tthe othe rone i will use for work.

i know i should sell the golf and give myself some extra cash a sit makes sense but selling the car would be a big thing for me. I like my car but running 2 vehilces is a bit crazy also

If money is an issue then one vehicle would be best then in the future when funds allow go get another car
It also depends whether you need a car for running family or friends around or if for a short while you can make do with the van

If it was me and I didn't want to get rid of my car, I would surrender the Tax, cancel the insurance, put the car under a sheet and store it until I had made a firm decision of what to do with it.  'O' and make sure its parked off the road.  ;) those plasic policemen have a nasty habbit of checking tax on vehicles parked on the road.

i reckon i could afford to run it. I only use it for my own use in going to work. one part is saying sell it as its value is going down anyway as it gets older. othe rpart is saying keep it becaus ei enjoy driving it.

If you really are not going to be using the Golf much at all then sell it. It is only a Golf and if you decide you want a car in a year's time, you can easily buy another and think of all the depreciation you will have saved yourself.

sell both and buy a 110 landrover. plenty of space for 5 people  and good load carring , will tow 3 ton easily and can run on veg oil.  sounds good to me.

if the car means that much to you have a tow bar fitted and put your wfp gear in a trailer then you wont need to buy a van and can keep the money.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Use the van to get to work.

or

Buy a pedal cycle or m/cycle to get to work.

or

Get a trailer system if it's that important to you to keep.
It's a game of three halves!
