do supalite brushes scratch windows?
« on: February 27, 2008, 05:06:40 pm »
i'm sure they don't but i'm asking cos a good customer has noticed a scratch on 1 window since i cleaned yesterday.
Has anyone else had experience of this?
Also, does anyone know if there is anyway to rub out the scratch or is there some sort of t-cut for glass that i can recommend to them.
Thanks

Go on

Look for the glass polishing kit - you will need to be patient if you are going to polish this out it can take quite some time

I've had a look and am hoping to recommend something they can buy (not me  ;D) to do it. I will pass on that info tomorrow.
Thanks

No the Super-lite brush will not scratch a window unless grit got trapped between the plastic stock and glass, Luke

When window`s are cleaned WFP after a number of cleans when they become sterile they show up every blemish in the glass, scratches that were not visable before now are.Is it only 1 window,if it is it was probobly there before.

Mark it is really important that they follow the instructions and keep the polishing head moving on the glass at all times or it will distort the glass.

We did a L shaped scratch about 2 years ago about a foot high - it took about 2 hours but we got rid of it

The Super-Lite (Bentley) brushes have very soft flocked bristles, chance of them scratching - Nil.

The above explanations all sound feasible.

You reckon?  Have you ever tried to scratch a piece of glass on purpose?

It takes some effort.

I don't believe you can scratch glass with a WFP brush of any make.

To scratch glass the thing-object that is scratching it needs to be seriously sharp or heavy, like said you try scratching a peice of glass especially thick double glazing it would take some doing.

any brush if it picks up bits of grit etc. has the potential to scratch glass.
I should know, I have  :'(
A customer of mine contacted me before xmas pointing out the scratches on one window that she thought my brush had made. I would normally have disputed it but on inspection I agreed that the cleaning motion and nature of the fine scratches all over the glass could only have been down to me. I have no reason to disbelieve her as she'd lived in the house over twenty years. I can only put it down to the brush becoming contaminated whilst cleaning down the frames and loose grit and the likes getting into the bristles. I'm replacing the pane for her, should cost me less than a tenner and an hour or so of my time, so she's happy ;)

I'm pretty sure that no bristle on any brush is gonna scratch glass.  Glass is extremely hard.  Bristles are usually made of plastic, nylon or some other plastic type stuff, which is soft.

Maybe possible to scratch the paintwork on a car, but glass? NO.

thanks all for the replies. I automatically told her the brush was scratch proof and as it was only 1 window and no others i couldn't see it being possible.
They have been good customers since i started so i did go back today and have a look and i told her i'd hazard a guess and let her know.
There were 2 very fine scratches pointing different ways, but i was none the wiser because her husband had a go after i'd gone at cleaning it again to see if it would disappear, so there was no evidence for me to come to any conclusion of what else might have been the reason. But i told her i would enquire with others before i got back to her.
I've got to add that she didn't accuse me, just mentioned it and asked me if i had ever scratched a window before with my kit.
I looked at robs link and others to see if there was a cheaper old wives tale of ways to get it out. I found this link about clear nail polish, which i will mention when i call here tomorrow.
