Im sorry unless Im very wrong, how on earth can a larger pole drain your battery. If the pump is pumping out at 1 or 2 liters a minute it draws the same amount of power regardless of what type of pole you use.....I am right....arent I? Luke

I wouldn't want to use the 27ft hybrid as my main pole. It is a good pole, but just not quite light enough for all the time. I would pair it with a 17ft glass fibre Xtel for the majority of your work. Your shoulders and arms will thank you.

Shouldn't drain your battery though.

Hi Again Dazz  ;D

I use the 34' XTel Hybrid with my backpack, my setting is always on setting 2, Never had a problem with it draining the battery, what setting do you use.

i use setting 2 and it definitly drained it quicker, thats why i changed back to the smaller pole(which lasts longer)and had to buy a spare battery,i noticed this the first day i got the pole but maybe the original battery is getting knackered

It certainly sounds like a battery problem to me and not the fault of the pole. charge your batteries after every days use?

Maybe the pole hose length is longer so your pump has to work harder to push the same amount of water further.

i dont mind a bit of extra weight,i see this as a work out and could carry my backpack on my back all day,it has to help your fitness although bending over to fill from barrels can be awkward, yes jeff i charge it everyday but now ive got 2 batteries i dont have to worry,i might buy another as it was only £10-thats what i thought wayne more work as the hose is longer

I can't see that wayne, like I said I use the 34' Hybrid, I do think its a battery problem, if the battery has a low current out-put, then it will drive the pump but much slower than normal, I have read that some guy's were supplied with duff batteries to start with.

Also I seem to recall that the charger supplied now, does not have a little LED indicator, this can lead to under charging if disconnected before its fully charged.

I think he means his personal energy supply :D

Alex, you mention that you always bought WFP poles cut down to 5ft as you found that 5ft was easier to extend and collapse down again for your window cleaning.

With the hybrid pole being made up with 4ft6inch plus lengths which is favoured over the 6ft pole lengths by competitors. How come the new SLX pole is much longer although approximately 25% lighter than an extel hybrid. Surely it would make more sense to use a smaller length pole for both ground work and above like the hybrid than the longer SLX. I'm not having a dig, I'm just curious. I would choose the ideal height pole over a slightly less weight pole despite the slight rigidity difference anyday.

Hello Jeff,
Would a small backpack battery (whatever it's condition) have to work harder to push 'X' amount of water, (on a slow flow rate), further along a small diameter pole hose than a similar hose of shorter length?

I agree that compactness is one of the most important features of a pole. The SL-X is actually slightly shorter when closed than any of the Hybrid poles :)

The base section is actually quite a bit longer but because the clamps are about 5 times more compact the overall length of the pole is less. So the pole is more compact and 25% lighter!!

I'd agree with Mr Gardener, I have a 17ft xtel and a 27 hybrid.  You could use the 27ft all day long, it's lighter than a lot of 18ft poles that we were using not long ago, but the 17 is soooo light.  Also if you use the Hybrid only when you need it it will last longer, meaning the 17 will be cheaper to replace when it wears out.

Simon.

Alex,

what is the actual length of each pole section please? On your site it just lists the compact length of the pole.

Wayne, theres something your forgetting, the length of the clamps, on the sl-x they are very compact in comparison to other poles, when closed the sl-x is the same size as a 17ft xtel, Luke

Hi Luke,

Tucker's WFP with it's 'worm gear clamps' are the most compact around. However their modified 'pennel clamps' are wider but much more WFP user friendly. Size isn't everything unless you're a woman, lol

I hope Gardiners new SL X pole with it's compact clamps is all it's hyped up to be. Time will tell along with forum members comments after using it. I look forward to the reviews.
