"Saving the Planet..."
« on: February 22, 2008, 07:08:00 am »

Nice posh house I do with a nice posh lady living there.

Me: I see you dry your washing on a line in the garden, don't often see that these day.

Her: I don't have a tumble-drier...I'm helping to save the planet.

Just imagine if I turned up one day with wfp...!! No amount of explaining that the water molecules don't then just disappear forever would convince her that I wasn't wasting the planets resources.

I have a customer who is always telling me about her echo friendly enviromentalist husband, I had been cleaning them for 2 years without ever seeing him as he was always at work, then one day I turned up and he was in, he gave me a filthy look as I walked around his house with water on full power!, I heard a few raised voices inside the house, but luckily I think the wife wears the trousers in his house and she likes me and the way I clean her windows. Just after I finished he came out looking a bit sheepish and paid me in cash!!  ;D

Hi

We have a customer who is adamant about conserving water - washes his cars with a bucket etc. Whenever he see me he is always on about the bloke next door who cleans his cars several times a week with the hose pipe - what a waste of water etc etc.

But there is never a recycle bin on dustbin day outside his house - only the dustbin.

IMO mostly this conservation stuff is all mouth.

ps - one day he will find out how much waste water there is from our RO and I am sure we will then loose the account. ;D ;D ;D

Then she gets in her 4x4 to take the kids to school.

why is it the middle classes who go on about the planet.............................................................................................................................. after the plane trips to h.k   n.z  nyc and of course thir second home in tuscany yet its us who have to scimp and use less they are the real wasters          yet we get the blame.

yea cycle to work or work from home see how long the economy would last if the working classes couldnt work because of these idiots.

also global warming is not yet proven the deserts were once green europe was covered in water three times and the artic has plants and fossels two miles down when it was a jungle the weather is cyclic not over a few years but over eons and i bet you never heard a word like eons on this forum before either.

Wow.  Just think of all the treees needed to make the paper for that money.  If he had written a cheque he could have saved half a tree.  If he had paid you electronically, it would have just used a tiny bit of power.

its funny because its not exactly wasting water, the water doesnt get destroyed it allways cycles back and ends up somewhere else.
its not going to save the planet.

that's right.
Whatever goes into the ground ends up as cloud eventually. And there is no water shortage if the ice caps are melting and sea levels rising. There is also no detergent polluting the ground with pure water either.

I had someone comment about the water last summer when the hose pipe ban was on. I said it just goes back into soil so its eco friendly.

They thought for a moment then nodded

While the "eco conscious" custies are in the minority at the moment, their number is growing fast. I'm setting up a simple rainwater harvesting system next week, and I will be adding my "eco credentials" to my van signage, stationary, business cards etc etc. Stay ahead of the game, and your prices can stay ahead too!!!

BTW,.. the water from rainwater harvesting will over the course of a year actually cost me slightly LESS than running the RO,.. and I'm not on a meter!!!   ;D ;D

Yes i agree but the change we are experiencing is happening quicker than any other and the start of it just happens to be around the time of the industrial revolution what we are doing is accelerating the cycles.

We may be contributing to it, but so is every other life-form, if its going to happen its going to happen; it'll all sort itself out in the end, like it did before.

In 30,000 years this'll all be forgotten about, why worry. What life-forms remain on earth at that time, will be perfectly happy, will have adapted to whatever resources there are and life (maybe not us though) will merrily continue on its way.

We ALWAYS assume its wrong/bad because of how it affects US (isnt that arrogant in the grand scheme of things, like we are the most important?) which is what this thread is all about in fact, how our water usage affects US. The water will ALWAYS end up back where it came from, in the atmosphere or in the oceans. It always does. Why are we worried about it, because theres too many of us with inadequate storage facilities.

" Saving the planet "  what a stupid expression that is. The planet is going to be just fine,it might get too hot or wet for humans to live on but the only thing thats going to finish the planet off is the sun going super nova.( little bit of astronomy for you).
I agree with the poster who said that more and more people are becoming more "Green Aware" and its good to stay ahead of the game.

Water conservation in this country does not save the planet. All it saves is money for the water companies because they dont have to repair the leaks  ::)

You could argue that you sre not using cheicals so actually better for the environment  ;D
