apart from realy huge fire works how on earth do u motivate the young these days
becase the money dont neither does over time i think they get it to easy 
is it just me our is it just not worth employing the young these days  i would have worked till the cows came home at sixteen you interview them and somtimes you need to look hard to see if they are serious with the  answers they come away with

i was a apprentice welder and did not get any where near this till i was time served

Definitely. Whats wrong with wanting to earn £300 a week when youre 16? Their time is still as valuable as anyone elses.

Some guys take that home anyway... and they have bills to pay and kids to keep, i know who i would rather give to.

if they were that serious they would set there own business up and earn more than double what your paying them,

thats what i did, i worked with some dickhead window cleaner for not much more than min wage, didnt take long before i realised i could do what he does but better so i set up on my own and have never looked back, £300 a week is nothing when you can earn 600, 700+ a week doing the same job

I know a few lady window cleaners, and to be perfectly honest they work Darn hard and really appreciate flexible working (esp if kids etc).  Just as capable as blokes and a helluva lot more respectful to customers

The others are right though, £300 is not enough.

strongly disagree paying 300 to a 16 yr old, they need to learn the job and respect that you need to earn more as you get older, i started on crap money and it got better when i did when working for someone, nowadays they dont no how easy they have got it and need to learn money doesnt grow on trees i say bring back national service till they are 18 then we would have some respect without worrying who they will happy slap next!

Your wasting your time employing anyone of 16 years of age,i wouldn`t employ anyone under 22-23 and even then i would prefer someone who had bills to pay ie morgage,that way there more likely to turn up.

16 year olds should be paid less IMO.

They are too young to drive. Need to gain some experience.

Maybe start them low and put wages up as they get better?

£300 a week at 16. What planet is he on. at min wage for age 22 he would need to work around 54hrs per week for that.  54 is over the limit even for a 16 year old

I wouldn't pay a 16 yr old £300 a week.
At 16 they will not be motivated and think they are on holiday all the time.

I know been there and done it.

I would pay minimum wage and if they are any good put the wages up a bit.

I only got £25 a week at 16

Totally agree! When I was 16 I was earning £35 per week for a 45 hour week, my money went up when my skill went up. I got to work on time and snapped up any overtime that was going. National service is a great idea, kids these days have no respect, no desire (other than to get drunk or pregnant) and no concept of hard work!

Whats the great emphasis on National Service? So you deal with problem kids by teaching them how to kill? Sounds totally irresponsible to me. Sending them off to Iraq or Afghanistan so they can see misery and suffering and terrible, terrible atrocities.... the strong ones might do fine, but what about the ones who cant handle it? They come back, traumatised and maladjusted and take out their insecurities and anger on society.... turn to booze and drugs to cope, and end up back in prison again?

£ 300 a week for a sixteen year old, oh please.  I am not an empolyer but I think you also have to pay NI for each employee so it is going to cost more than 300 from the off. Then you have to factor in holiday pay, at least 4 weeks sounds ok, if you think 300 a week is a good wage to start on, so thats £1200 a year. Then there is pay rises, a big one when they can actually clean a window and you dont have to spend all of your time cleaning up after them, another one when they reach 18 and another when they reach 21 by which stage he would be on 500 or 600 a week. I imagine the lad turned up for the interview with no intention off getting the job and priced himself out of the market, for most employers anyway. I would pay a little above minimum wage to start and offer a few incentives for attendance, performance etc with increases as and when their window cleaning improves. The better they are the more they earn.  If you start them at £300 and they turn out to be useless you will have given yourself very little room for manouvre.
