shop frontage
« on: December 05, 2004, 11:46:39 am »
Hi everyone, what a great site, people helping each other in the same business. I have not seen this before but I do think its the way forward.   Now to the point, I need a little bit of feedback from the guys & girls who have been in this business for a while.  I am thinking of starting a shop/office frontage power washing service in north london & as I have not seen this service offered by other companys I am starting to think why?  I am sure that I am not the first person to think of this service so again why is it not been offered.  ps. thinking of buying a self-contained mobile steam cleaner to carry out this service. right bit of kit or not? any info would be great many thanks.......Barry

Just a thought but how often are you up and about at 6:00am on a Sunday morning ??
This type of work is usually done at very unsociable hours. Use the search facility on pressure washing I am sure you will find some interesting info.

hi there,

as people have said this type of work is done early hours or overnight, also using sometimes quite large bits of kit, towers, cherrypickers etc, depending on the job required.

you will also find that shop frontage and fascias, usually fall into the window cleaners domain.

office frontage, is a service that is performed once every few years, and can be very costly to the client.  we are involved in a contract at the moment where we are only cleaing a 10th of the building, 100ft up, will take a month to complete, and requires some heavy kit. and the invoice is obviously reflecting that.

that is why you  dont see frontage cleaning be done all the time.

Thanks for the reply guys. My plan was to hot power wash just the shop frontage sign, canopie, door/window frames & then wax @ a cost of about £38 per standard shop frontage, lots of shops out there, cost is not bad for customer, out of hours work so you can park where you work and you can do the work a lot faster becouse no one there to get in your way.....sounds good to me but what do you think?????????

hi there,

i would be careful with the wax, as the window cleaners might get a little bit upset with wax on the glass.

on the other hand it also sounds like you are offering a window cleaning service , would that be correct

Hi Martin                                                                                   No not a window cleaning service but the complete shop frontage signs, canopie, frames & any walls that are part of the shop front. also the pavement out side their shop if they want to pay extra......Barry                                       ps. the wax would only be for the signs.

You are defiantly not the first to think of this and it has probably been offered!

You need to knock on doors to see if it’s required, and then make a financial decision!

A word of caution we now approaching the freezing period HS comes more into play here, than the summer mouths.

As many of you know I was a Manager with a Nationwide retail chain for 25 years and I can remember having sign cleaned about every two years

Windows window cleaner. Side walls pavement area never. Upstairs ie stockroom staff area  office windows never.

Thanks for all the replys on this subject. maybe I should give it a little bit of a rethink and or test before I jump in. I still think that mobile hot pressure washing is the business to be in but first I need to see what area of the market requires this service through out the year. if i come across something good I will let you all know.  ...Barry

kesten,

there does seem to be some interest in block paving cleaning, at the present time.

And indeed some councils are putting out tenders for the service.

this operation is being done with rotary scrubbing brush attachments to the pressure washer, maybe worth while having a look there.
