SMART OR SCRUFFY
« on: January 29, 2008, 12:20:05 am »
Thinking of getting some   new work gear and footwear, apart from a couple of HI VIS vests with name and number on, i generally wear simply polo shirt jumper and aheavy coat in the cold... jeans and trainers... so i am goin to buy a 2 piece overall set navy blue with logo etc on reverse, and safety shoes/boots.... starting to feel a little scruff lately..... what does everyone else wear?

Gary.

Don't agree I'm afraid.  Jeans, trainers and sweatshirts in winter. Summer it's shorts, tee-shirts and deck shoes.

Wore a suit for too many years in my last job...fed up of uniforms!

I have 3 polo shirts, 3 sweatshirts, 1 waterproof fleece and a baseball cap, all with embroidered logo on that matches my van logo.
A pair of strong, durable trousers and decent boots during the winter.

In the summer it is shorts and the polo shirts.

I don't think it matters a whit what kind of shoes you wear, trainers, boots or whatever, just so long as they look reasonable.

Wearing clothes that are what could loosely be described as a 'uniform' is I think a good thing, it doesn't make you a better window cleaner of course, but it does give an impression of being professional.
It just looks way better than scruffy jeans and an old tee shirt (many don't wear new clothes to work, they've usually worn them socially first, ditto trainers, the ones worn to work are often those they wore out socially and have replaced with a new pair.)
But then, I wore such clothes to work for 22 years before I decided to 'logo up'.

It is also fairly cheap too. For 3 polo's, 3 sweats, a waterproof fleece and a baseball cap it cost me around £90, so it makes financial sense too.

Work trousers are a must. They are, or should be heavy duty fabric and resist the rose bushes etc much  better.

Funny how this topic is nearly the same fundamental issue as the thread about marketing(brand image and professionalism) but this is much less devisive.

Good replies,.... got my new gear today, same as dickies, but cheaper navy trousers, navy lightweight jacket and navy waterproof, just need boots now, feel so much better and more pro.

need logo or name sorting now,to be honest i dont go too much for logos, in my opinion its the name people want and the tel. number

saw a van written today, JOE BLOGGS massive letters.

plumbing and heating.... tiny letters..

telephone number.........tiny.

i know its marketing the brand name, but as for advertising his services,... well i could hardly read his occupation nor his telephone number,

but hey, each to their own i say.

I don't think it matters what you wear as long as it's practical and clean (OK it may be grubby by the end of the day).

Personal hygene is far more important...who wants a smelly BO'ey window cleaner on their premises?

poo, shower, shave and loads of deodorant is the order of the day....I actually splash on a bit of after-shave as well....not that I'm gay mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find i get plastered in mud this time of the year from my hose, i also have a habit of picking up the hose with the back of my leg which doesn't help.
