I was asked to pop round to a School of which I am a Govenor to clean some sick of a carpet in the classrom as the cleaning staff had tried and it still smelt.

Obviously as I an a Govenor this was a Goodwill Free job.

However the waste water tank was black when I finnished.

As far as I am aware this school never has the Carpets cleaned.

Does anyone else get much  carpet cleaning in Classrooms from the state school sector?

I did one about 8 month ago the whole school was carpeted.I don't think its very practical toi have carpets in schools but hey it keeps us busy.

I used to do an annual clean at a local infants/junior school until the governors persuaded the headmistress that the money would be better spent on books.

Remembering the amount of play-dough, chewing gum, vomit, urine etc., in addition to general soiling that I used to remove every 12 months, I can only imagine what the carpets are like after 6 years of not being cleaned.

I clean a number of schools in my area and two colleges, all to be done in late August or September each year. I get called out about 15 to 20 times a year to clean up after a child has vomited.(£35 per time) a number of schools have a spot clean on a contract and can call me out up to 10 per year with a one off payment at the start of the year.

Over the years I have got the hard floors to do as well in a number of the schools and both colleges. from a cost I charge around £1.25 per sq mt. 17p per bit of gum after the first 15 per room or area and hard floors £2.73 per sq mt. to strip and seal with 3 coats of polish. ( not for you C.C. that charge £3 and £5 per sq mt. but I do around a £1000 per day over this time and don't have a day off. but do die for a few days in october)

In the year I will get other work from the schools as thay like to know who thay are dealing with. and who is going in to the school. got one of the schools to do a positive veting for me at my cost around £75. but put that in a letter to a head of an infants school and it gos along way to you geting the job.

Very good now at paying bills on the dot. 30 day but hard work.   

If you go on the net to scools in your area you will get a a full list of schools with names and addresses to write to I sent a very good info pack to all the schools. The cost of this mailing was about £700. with printing and stamps ect.

If you don't go for it, you just don't get it.

Likewise I cleaned some classrooms a while ago and the rubbish I got out was worse than most offices, I wonder if most Mums know what their children are rolling around on? (this was an infants school, the advantage was that the loos were low enough not to need a bucket to empty mc.)

I have only ever done one school in my time so far. Took me a the whole day. All carpets came up very well, and all staff were completely satisfied. although after emptying the waste tank I was taking out large handfulls of mud and sand. Apparently this school had not had their carpets cleaned for 14 years.

we do quite a few schools and the biggest headache has to be the amount of blue tac on the floors, its no wonder most comercial carpets are full of chewing gum they must practice the art of spitting it out using blue tac at schools.

sorry for delay been working hard.

over the school summer holidays, I do around 1/2 my yearly turn over but about 1/2 the profit I would make in other times as the over heads are in staffing costs and hire of some equipment. 

I can turn over in the first week of the holidays up to 15k i may have the T/M going and 3 portables, and a team working on hard floors
