I've read a few posts about di cylinders, I've got 2 X 11ltr ones. Some of you lads have said that they should last 2 to 3 years and I've seen re-conditioned ones on ebay. My question is: What deteriorates in the cylinder that you need to change them and what are the symptoms, is it rising tds? I'm at a loss to think why they would deteriorate at all.

Ive just opened a tin of uPVC Cement (for a project Im in the middle of that I'll post about in the next day or two) that hasnt been opened in about 2 years and its all rusty inside.

I think the guys meant that the resin had lasted that long. There is nothing in a DI canister that can corrode, they should last for ever, of course how long your resin lasts will always depend on the size of the vessel. the TDS of the water going in, and the amount of water you use. Dai

Why do they sell reconditioned ones then?

I've got 2 x 11ltr vessels, one was new & one reconditioned. had them 4 years & they still look & perform as they did on day one.

Don't know but these vessels are used in many industries & aplications so would assume they must get more hammer in their previous lives.

The recondition ones you will probably find that their last life was behind a coffee vending machine, hence the term reconditioned.

DI vessels last for ages, the only bit that goes is the head and tubing.

Have dropped mine out of my van many a time and still going strong
