Ive paid a tonne of money out on diesel and have receipts for everything. How much of it can I write off against my tax bill ??
When it comes to claiming for vechicle costs including fuel used, there are 2 methods that the tax man allow you to use.
These are called
Actual cost method
or
Mileage rate method
Which ever of these 2 you decide to use, you cannot change the method unless you replace the vechicle and sell your old one.
Actual cost method
With this method you can claim 100% of all cost that you incur whille running the van, including 100% of diesel. ( the tax man is not really interested in the shopping trips that you will do in a van, but if you do a lot of personel driving with the van then its best to deduct a personnel allowance )
The cost of buying the van is set at the rate of 50% in the first year then 25% per year thereafter.
Mileage cost method
Cars and vans 0.40p after 10,000 miles 0.25p
Motor Cycles 0.24p after 10,000 miles 0.24p
Bicycles 0.20p after 10,000 miles 0.20p
You cannot claim the cost of the vechicle seperately.
