Thought this could be interesting and help point some of us on the righ road, after all

its a "ASK THE AUDIENCE " type of question and they are rarely wrong .

Leaflets and canvassing have to be the best ways because you get to target which jobs to call on/drop them at.
I suppose the best way is to leaflet and follow up several days later by canvassing. I used to canvass only. These days, when I get around to it, I leaflet only.
It depends what you mean by best really. Canvassing is better for getting a quicker flow of work going but leafletting is better if you want it to trickle in over a longer time period - or that's what I've found anyway.

Hi shiner, yes i realised that as i posted it but rather than change it or mention it i just thought i would let it run, i suppose i should have ommited canvassing and leaflets from the poll, but lets just let it run now, you never know all the big boys may come on and change to van sign lol

jonah what do you mean?..... i can see the results of the poll so far at the top of the thread and i was simply asking if other people can, or since i started the poll, is it only me who can see it.... male, wakefield

when i 1st started i got lots of calls from a £10 advert in a parish magazine. Most of my work actually. Sometimes when i drive down a road and like the look of the properties i will leaflet them and get quite a good response from that too.
I personally don't door knock because i don't feel comfy doing it, but that is supposed to bring better results. I think doorknocking is more effective in towns where people are used to it, rather than villages where people think you are casing the joint out.
As time has gone on i now pick up most work by word of mouth. I still leaflet good looking houses though and now very few from the parish mag advert.

To start off it has to be door knocking, and the best customer is her in doors. If you come across the male of the house it's normally a grunt "no thanks."

Leaflets have a very low percentage return as most people never look at it and just bin it.

Business cards I found work better.

But what comes tops is word of mouth, this is provided you do a good job. If customers are not refering you, then something you may need to think about is your work ethic.

Word of mouth is tops for me.
