I have been approached to possibly take over the contract to do builders cleans for a national house builders as the current window cleaners cannot complete the work in a reasonable amount of time
I have in the past done a few one off cleans so realise how difficult they can be so with regards pricing do you price per job or per day or give a price for the whole job?
And is their anything else i should know

hi there

the tender will require you to quote per plot, they will sometime breakdown the outside ans the inside of the windows.

the problem being now, that a lot of developers dont allow any ladder work at all, we have even had to use a tower in the past. and cherry picker.

they can be good if you like that, as you know that you will have x amount of work at a certain time in the year.

on the other hand, sticky residue left on the window once you remove the protection film. very difficult to remove, scaffold being removed prior to you getting up there to strip off the windows,  turning up on site and the site not being ready, extended payment terms, etc

you need to be registered as a sub contractor and will have 20% of total money sent to tax man by contractor, if you are not registered 30% will be sent. Charge at least £180 per house for standerd three bedroom house and higher for larger house.

p-pole, I think what you have said is rubbish. Maybe you are right if you working on site the whole time for the builder/developer or whoever, but if you are engaged to clean certain properties on a one off basis, you do not need to be registered as a sub.

be a sub-contractor ! End of.

Did you know that some site contractors have to have 20% of there price retained for 2 years,you might not think this applies to WC`s but you never know.

Its a cleaning contractor that i will be doing the work for so they will take 20-30% for the tax man?
Thats something i didnt know will factor that in now

Although the cleaning firm are sub-contracting the work out to you, they would be the ones paying
20% tax, not you.

1) you will get deducted 20% providing you have cis relationship with the payer if not which if working for the forst tiime it will be 30%

2) you will need a cscs card to get on sites

3)£180 for a standard three bedsemi you having a bubble mate i can get 4 of them doen in a day they will not pay that.

all the above im 100% confident are right been doing b/cleans for 4 years now for laings,taylor wimpey, st james and more

i charge day rate mate as my work comes through a company who tenders for all the work. would never price per plot as you could get stuck on one if its full of sticky residue and concrete all over the show. example 2 of us today got 4 three storey townhouse dones in a day.

basically you de-tape and clean both sides of the glass and frames ready for the mastic man to come and seal the frames, and get as much of the crap off as possible. Theres always more to it but thats it in a nutshell
