I did a few with a stiff brush not on a pole with a broom stick.

I have seen a few pressure wash roofs, I would never ever do this, makes the roof stick out like a sort thumb and not in a good way IMO.

Notice the brush is a 9" addis- meant for decking- not a big one. I'm sure this would have worked from the ground.
I also had a fiendish plan for covering up the guttering.

But as I say I have never actually done it.

if you have never done a roof with moss on mr S, I can say right now this would not get it all off, it is a reall pain in the bum to do it properly. with a pole you just cant get the force you need to get the hard bits off.

my plan was hire A good quality cat ladder which i feel safe on, plus hire a high spec power washers with a extendable lance with a 25 mtrs hose , feel it will be a 2 persons job for safety and ease , does anybody no of suitable cleaning chemicals

power washing a roof IMO makes the roof look worse, have you ever seen this beening done ? any change of tile to roof shows you can never get every tile clean IMO

I am not trying to put you off at all just giving my opinion on it, I wish you all the best with it m8 (and I mean that nicely)

if you clean from a ladder, you really have to make sure you point the pressure washer downwards. if you get any water under the tiles,(and you will if you point it up, you could be in big trouble!

Like Ian-windowwashers said it will make it look worse unless you clean the whole roof. I mean actually jet wash everything, not just the moss, or you will have little marks where the moss used to be.

I'm getting a lot of this kind of work too. I find that the only solution to do the job properly is a powerwasher,.. and a fairly powerful one at that.
The extension lance's are great for cleaning the fascia and soffit, but fairly useless for the roof itself. You just can't control the lance well enough when fully extended,.. and also a 24' lance wont reach anywhere near the top of an average roof.

At the moment I use a roof ladder and the standard lance. Time consuming but effective. Just make sure not to aim the water up the roof as it'll get in under the tiles, and always make sure lead flashing is laid back flat after you finish cleaning around it.

Thats occoured to me, a lot of tiles have minimal overlap and are only waterproof against rain or any water coming from the same direction as the rain. If you start spraying high pressure water around, even from the right direction there is a danger it will wash back under the tiles.

I've done a lot of roofs, and while I'm as careful as possible, sometimes the water does end up spraying upwards a little at awkward corners. I've never had a problem with water getting into the house yet though. Most houses have a layer of felt under the tiles to catch anything that does manage to get in,..... and attic insulation will absorb the little bits that may get past that.
Still,.. always be careful doing it!, better safe than sorry!
